Devaraja Market is very photogenic. . .the people in the stalls were usually quite friendly ~ some even offering tastes of their product (the finished jaggery was quite a different taste than I expected).
It's a great place to wander and watch the locals.
Adjacent to the Krishnarajasagar Dam is the beautifully landscaped Brindavan Gardens. Not to miss while in Mysore you will get to see the fountains dancing to popular bollywood tunes in the evening every day. (Have uploaded a video of the same too!)
Timings: 6:30 am to 9:00 pm
It makes for a nice drive from Mysore. You will find one of the most popular temples in India here. Do check out the huge Nandi (Bull) statue on the way there.
The hill is at 1000 meters elevation. Legend has it that Mahishasura- a king of Mysore was killed by Goddess Chamundi here. The temple has the deity wearing a garland of skulls. The 'prashadh' of ladoo is yummy!
I love exploring foreign markets and this was one of the largest and best I came across during my four months in India. It provides some excellent photo opportunities with locals selling and buying fresh fruits, flowers, vegetables, fish and general groceries.
Thi 18th century temple is one of 12 that lie within the palace grounds. It is dedicated to the Varaha incarnation of Vishnu. The 5-story gopura is whitewashed; the only figural sculptures are dvarapalas flanking the openings, and guardian faces on the top story.
