Mysore's best bargain

I was delighted to find the 'businessman's lunch' at the Metropole - the best meal in town. I switched hotels at once and was delighted with my stay. As your other reviewer said the road is a main thoroughfare - however Mysore does not have much traffic at night. If you are concerned book a courtyard room or one in the rear.

Unique Quality: Once the guest house of the Maharaja. Peaceful inner courtyard. Spotless spacious rooms and polite staff. The lunch is extraordinary at very reasonable price. A real find and should have a much higher rating.

A good deal for a decent hotel

In December 2006, I was booked into the Green Hotel after reading many favorable reviews.Because it was "high season" I had to prepay fully. I was given a tiny, filthy, stuffy back room in the "palace" that might be best described as a cockroach paradise. The desk staff was almost as rude as the dining room staff. The lights in the main lobby went out sometime before midnighgt and the street noise made sleep impossible. What to do? since I planned to be in Mysore for 3 days. Fortunately, I went on line and booked through Travelocity a room at the Metropole for about $90 USD. Although, the Metropole was a few blocks away, it was a world of difference.
My room was a palace, with a bathroom that was about twice the size of the room at the Green Hotel. There was a private verandah. The furnishings were top-notch. The morning breakfast buffet was extensive and good. The main restaurant was ok for other meals. Although there was some street noise as my room faced a busy main street, heavy windows and curtains cut most of the sound. I slept well on the large comfortable bed. I am glad that I did not suffer through with my prepaid hotel. I enjoyed Mysore and the hotel was conveniently located for walking even if a little away from "hotel row" and the main touristic areas.

Unique Quality: Heritage hotel with modern comforts.

Worth it

I checked out of the Green Hotel's noisey little rat hole of a room and wanted to indulge myself a little. Travelocity led me to the Metropole. Yippee! My large confortable room with palatial bathroom and verandah was perfect. The bed was big, comfy matching the standards of an American 4* property. Even the lighting was great, lamps everywhere. Snack was left during the afternoon. Breakfast buffet with special order omlettes and eggs was good.
The location was fine, a little out of the swirl of downtown and hotel row, yet easy access to both shopping and sights.
Ok, the staff was a bit snooty and did not really know about practical things like where to get a haircut or a chip for my mp3 player. But, being in India, there is always someone helpful outside to lead you--well, to lead you in most cases to a friend or where they get a kickback. But hey, prices are relatively cheap, so even with the foreigner surcharge, things work out just fine.
The restaurant was ok, but the Indian food on the menu was not all that exciting--maybe it was cooked for "western" tastes.

Unique Quality: Comfort and location, simply perfect.

Mysore's best

by jrober37 about Hotel Metropole

Mysore's best value is the Rs200 'business lunch.' Every single dish was delicious. Take a small portion of everything and than go back to sate. You can take your meal in the dining room or outside on the terrace. The staff was so helpful that they showed us how to make chaat. Salt/Pepper okra - heavenly.

You are not giving a budget.
The Metropole is a wonderful heritage hotel
and if they are not full, you can get a smaller
room for a good price (after bargaining). The food
is excellent too...
