I am trying to find the date for the big procession.
Somewhere I have seen the date of Okt. 21, but I think that is too late to be first day.
Is it correct that the procession is on the 10. day?
Its confirmed to be 21 oct,2007.

The main Palace is a must see. You need at the most 4 hours to see the pomp and splendor of the way kings lived in the recent past.
There are smaller palaces which you can skip.
There is a railway museum, a spot worth visiting if you are a railway buff. The People of Mysore - extremely friendly and very curteous.
How are you going to store thousands of high resolution pictures when you're on a photo safari trip? The answer is get yourself a digital photo storage that capable of synchronize you picture whenever your CF/SD/MS is full at your own timing.
You can even forget about looking for cyber cafe to transfer & burn pictures into CDs. Try to imagine having your CD pouch with you & you need to handle them with special care else losing or broken CDs simply means losing all you great shots. Good news for Malaysian travelers that you can easyly get one of this portable storage casing come complete with all memory card slots for the price of RM200 from Low Yat Plaza stores. You can opt for 40/60/80GB 2.5" capacity HDD to be fitted into this casing.
I have been using my unit for slightly more than 1 year & I am very satisfied with it.
A lot of people have already written about this sight of Mysore. Anyway, I will write about my own and recent (April 2007) experiences including my advices.
The sight is at the top of Chamundi Hill, 9 km from the city center. It is the best idea to take a taxi to the top (cc. 300.- Rs), let the taxi go and after looking around walk down the 1000 steps and take a rickshaw (80-100.- Rs) back to the city centre.
The car park at the top of the hill and the area around the temple is heavily-infested with touts and rather pushy souvenir sellers (a rare thing is South India but it's almost as bad as it can get in Agra around the Taj Mahal.) Don't accept their offers, be persistent and ignore them. If you want to buy some postcards, do it around the Maharaja's palace (there are enough sellers there as well) but if you buy something here all the other touts, sellers, beggars, etc. will jump on you. Anyway, is spite of all the hassle the temple is a must-see attraction.
After seeing the temple, look at the godly museum (a small building at the car park) and ASK! for directions for the 1000 steps leading down the hill back to the city. (There are a lot different steps downwards and it's not at all funny to discover that you've taken the wrong steps and you have to go back up.) Taking the 1000 steps downwards takes about 45 minutes and tiring but can be done relatively easily. It is the only way to see Nandi, a 5-meter bull monument (he was the vehicle of Shiva) and is around 1/3 way down. Halfway down you can get some refreshing sugar cane juice pressed right in front of you. Reaching the bottom take a rickshaw back to the city.
The towers, domes and verandahs seen at the Amba Vilas Palace are an example of Indo-Saracenic architecture. This is the same style as Mumbai's Victoria Terminus ~ a blend of Islamic and European details.
I'm very drawn to Islamic influence in architecture, so I found the exterior of this palace to be as pleasing as many of the Rajasthani ones I later visited.
The price to enter Somnathpur is different for foreigners ($5 US, I believe). You can hire a car and driver through your hotel, as we did for the ride from Mysore. We combined the daytrip with lunch and a couple of other stops in the countryside.
