Life around water
by Willettsworld
Alappuzha (Alleppey) is surrounded by water and so it figures predominately in local people’s lives. You'll see them fishing, washing and transporting goods on it and one of the best ways to see this up front is by taking the public ferry to Kottayam.
The green paradise
by ptitetoile
Allepey is the capital of the Backwaters, the green tropical regio full of canals where people move by boat and have a peaceful life along the water between palm trees... The town itself is very touristic but is the departure point or arrival point of cruises in the Backwaters... I had the chance to do it on board of a house-boat during one day and a morning. The house boat was a real palace with three bedrooms and separate bathroom, a kitchen and a wonderful sofa and dining place at the front of the boat...It is was the most luxe place we slept in during our whole trip in India.
We drove on large canal, enjoying the peaceful way of life of the people living on the banks of the canal, the green of the palm trees reflecting in the water... really a real moment of happiness and peace... Even if I was there more than 24 hours, I get not bored at all...some landscapes are so extraordinary that you get never enough of it! I did not ever want to read...just looking at the scenes every minutes...
But I also enjoyed the great food served by our cook! Pinapple, eggs and pancakes as breakfast, rice, fresh fish and vegetables at lunch and dinner...
