More about Lemon Tree Vembanad Lake Resort, Alleppey, Kerala

Palm Grove Lake Resort, Alleppey, Kerala

by Vintom about Right on the Banks of the backwaters.

This picture shows the inside of a Bamboo cabin at the Palm Grove Lake Resort, just outside (2Km) of the Main town of Alleppey, on the backwaters of Kerela.

Such a peaceful place to rest up after traveling and a great location to just sit and watch the world go by surrounded by coconut trees and boats sailing along the waterway.
There is no restaraunt or bar, there is nothing other than good clean accomodation and fantastic setting. The Cabins are all clean and have netting over the beds, which themselves were comfortable and had crisp, clean white sheets. No glass windows, just bamboo shutters that swing out to allow light and air into the cabin.
Each cabin has a small veranda where you can sit in peace and quite. Well worth the effort of taking a taxi out of town for.

Chic restaurant, great food & wine

by Leabhair about Harbour Restaurant

The Harbour Restaurant is located on beach Road in Alleppey, Kerala so you can sit & look out the window at the Arabian Sea. The beach opposite is quiet most of the time, it seems, but really comes alive on weekend evenings. Harbour has some nice touches in the decor - it's cute, chic and tasteful. Not passionless like so many Indian restaurants with their horrible white tube lighting. Food was brilliant - seafood platter was a huge portion that included tiger prawns and lovely white fish that's caught across the road! All very cheap. And yes, wine. We actually had wine and lots of Kingfisher beer. Give it a go. Well worth the effort.

I'd spend a couple of days in Delhi and one in Agra, plus another for nearby Fatehpur Sikri. Varanasi wouldn't be at the top of my list for a first visit, but if you do go, stop off in Khajuraho (which is on the air route) for its wonderful temples.

Instead (or as well), I'd spend time in Rajasthan - Jaipur for sure, plus either Jodhpur or Udaipur. And a day tiger-stalking in Ranthambore. ANYWHERE in India is a photographer's dream!
