Sreekrishna Island Villa: The BEst Island Villa

I think this is one and only Island villas in Alappuzha. They have 2 independent Non A/c cottages and 2 non a/c double rooms.The calm and quiet place I ever seen for an affordable price.I cannot describe the beauty of this place. They served delicious homely food for me.

Highly recommended.Because this is the best place to stay at Alappuzha

guesthouse+traditional hut+houseboat: A good 3-day-package

As I knew that our train would arrive at Alleppey at 2 in the evening, I reserved a 3-day-package for our stay in Alleppey for 10.800.- Rs. incl. everything (transport, sightseeing, 3 day accommodation+full service (food) for every day+canoe ride+1 day private houseboat). It wasn't cheap (mainly because of the private houseboat which is the biggest and most expensive business in Kerala). My travel agent was Coconut Tours and Travels based in Alleppey. (they have a homepage-you can find it if you want.)
1. night: Orchidea Guesthouse - a basic but atmospheric place. Nice and kind hosts, good breakfast, only 4 rooms without A/C and TV but clean and spacy (also the bathroom).
2. night: traditional hut built from bamboo and coconut husk right on the shore of a large backwater channel. Very romantic and away from the chaos. Practically, we were alone. Comfortable bed with mosquito net, no A/C but ceiling fan, no TV, clean bathroom with shower and flush toilet (open from above). Home-cooked food 3 times a day incl. in the package price. 2-hour-canoe ride on the smaller channels to see the sunset also included in the package price.
3. night: private houseboat just for the 2 of us. Seeing the channels, personal chef, a romantic journey after all. Sleeping at the house boat.

Gokul Cruise: Overnight on the Water

This is one of hundreds of operators plying the route between Alleppey and Kottayam (actually Kumarakom, where most of these tours begin or end). But, it’s the one we took, so I can comment on it. Wow. The boat was beautiful, comfortable and clean, and tastefully appointed. The crew was friendly and went well out of their way to accommodate our wishes. The cooking (lunch, dinner, and breakfast) was amazing, and I know some of our food was picked up fresh along the way from guys in canoes. It was a five-star experience. I believe this company has two boats (one-room and two-room – we had the two-room), so book in advance.

The downside to these houseboat cruises in general is the noise and pollution (they run on diesel engines). The boats are also quite large, and so have to stick to wider waterways, which means a lot of the really pretty places are beyond reach. Still, it’s one of the only ways to spend the night actually on the water, and the sunrise on the river was beautiful.

Palmgrove Lake Resort: Paradise

Blissfully peacefull place that offers 4 ecofriendly bamboo huts (with cable TV).
Great cooking in its own restaraunt.
Also offers fantastic boat tours on small country boats (much better than expensive and noisy houseboats)

Unique Quality: This place is truly wonderfull for many reasons. But the best thing about it is being able to lounge on the waterfront, just watching the world go by, whilst sipping on a fresh pineapple juice.
