by gajendrau

Hi
I am planning to visit kerala in december and have been in touch with
a. Travels Kerala, Karimpatta Road, Pallimukku, Cochin (Cochin), Kerala - 682 016, India. Phone: +91 484 238-1038
b. Grandeur Holidays, Elenthat Estate, Parambithara Road, Panampilly Nagar

+91 9388660500

I am about to make payments in a day or two but want to be sure if these operators are for real. Since i am asked to make 100% payment before 15 days of tour commencement.

Also if anybody has idea about them can post me details.

I think u can comfortably fix a tour plan on arrival to cochin. but the tour operators are charging an advance because of the heavy rush during the period. just fix up a hotel on the net and then decide on u r sightseeing on getting there.

Travel Tips for Kochi

Friendly Cochinis

by cochinjew

I met Suresh the owner of Touristland India travel agency just a stones throw away from the Ernakulam Junction Railway Station, four visits to Cochin ago, in Ernakulam. Since then he has become a good friend and is extremely keen to organize and help with all matters related to tourism. He tries to get tickets reserved on an overbooked train, has contacts with airline booking agencies, got me bus tickets couple of times, and more importantly offers his friendship without any ulterior motives. I have been to his house at Vaikom many a times and stayed over a couple of times and always enjoyed the authentic kerala food prepared by his wife. He has two lovely children and they are as friendly as their father.
On this visit, he was waiting for us at the Cochin Airport and put his car at our disposal for the stay. He came over to Fort cochin to visit us and also shared lunch and dinner with us. A lunch at Metropolitan Hotel where his agency maintains a desk was on him, despite my pleas to pay for the lunch.

Romantic location by the water

by cochinjew about Fort House Restaurant

Recipes handed down by the mother or grandmother of the present owner of the Fort House Hotel, this outdoor dining area near the water is ideal for an intimate dinner. the weather is breezy, you can see the lights of the houses in vypeen island and also the lights along the fort cochin and mattancherry area.
good service I really enjoyed my dinner tonight at the Fort House Restaurant

ginger lime soda 25 inr lime soda 20 inr shrimpt curry kerala style, the shrimps were fresh and the curry was sweet and mild with tomato in it 150 inr, okra curry 75 inr coconut rice 50 inr kerala parotta 25 inr 345 inr for a nice meal for two
i also noticed that the prices have not increased in the past one year and half while all the other restaurants have increased their prices
I highly recommend this place for a quiet dinner, outdoors, away from the crowds of the Princess Street. and the restaurants there

Cochin Synagogue

by suvanki

Situated in Jew Town, Mattancherry.
Open Sun - Fri 1000 - noon and 1500 - 1700.

This synagogue was originally constructed in 1568.
Following destruction by Portuguese cannon fire, it was rebuilt by the Dutch in 1662.

Remove your shoes on entering.

Probably of most interest is the flooring. Hand painted Chinese willow pattern, delft inspired tiles cover the surface. No two tiles are identical!
They were imported from Canton in the mid 18th century.

Overhead, 19th century Belgian chandeliers light the Synagogue.

In the Synagogue are also giant scrolls of The Old Testament, and some copper plated Hebrew scripts

Upstairs is the women's' gallery.

Guide books and postcards on sale, and the custodian is very knowledgeable.

The Synagogue does get quite busy, as it's on every tour groups itinerary - so probably best to visit early morning or out of season if you want a more peaceful visit.

Services are held very rarely, as there has to be a certain number of worshippers before this can occur. During our stay we learned that one of the few remaining Jewish inhabitants had died, leaving only 12 local inhabitants.

Probably if family and friends visit Cochin, there is occassion to hold a service

Dutch Palace

by muddybok

The Dutch Palace was originally built by the Portugese in 17th century. The Dutch modified it and presented to the Raja of Kochi. Coronation of many Rajas of Kochi were held here. The place has a fine collection of mural paintings the scenes from the Hindu epics Mahabharatha and Ramayana.

The museum does not allow photography partly to prevent discoloring of drawings from all the camera flashing. From my travel experience, I saw a lot of visitors do not know how to prevent their camera from flashing, be it in the museum, aquarium or even the night safari.

Unusual means of transportation ?

by cadzand

We were lucky having our bus driving us from Kochi to Aleppey. What to say about this elephant, walking gently along the very busy main road, trucks blowing their horn continuously next to him. It didn't bother him at all.
