We did not stay here but had we needed a hotel this is where I would have chosen to stay. Our backwaters cruise included a stop here for afternoon tea with time to explore the gardens and public rooms of the hotel. Bult by the Dutch as a Palce in the 16th century it later became the residence of the British Governor until Independence when it was handed over to the State. The building is now listed as a Heritage Hotel The setting is beautiful and the service impeccable.

The rooms were very large and clean and nice...A very nice swimming pool, a Beer Parlour and an awesome restaurant..Also has an Ayurvedic Center..It is a 5 minute boat ride across the backwaters from High Court Jetty Ernakulam...I would stay there again...most definately...
Unique Quality: The pool is really nice and you can watch the fishing boats early in the morning...It is very quiet and relaxing, and the staff was so friendly...Short ferry ride from Fort Cochin where you can see the Chinese Fishing nets, Jewish Synagogue, etc..

This is one of the more pleasant places to stay in Cochin. Situated in its own island, a short boat ride away is the Bolgatty Palace which is now converted into a convenient hotel. A former residence of the Dutch Governor the place reeks of history.
Unique Quality: If you are with your significant other, this is a most romantic place. There are secluded cottages and it is a fine place to watch the sunset.

The place is real good.I just went to this place 3 weeks back. But I didn’t stay there.Heard that it is a star hotel run by Kerala Tourism Development Corporation.
Bolgotty palace has nice airconditioned cottages belonging to Tourism dept of Kerala.You can stay in those cottages that faces the sea/backwaters.However pls note that after about 8pm you can not get boat to reach the hoetl from the main alnd unless you tell the hotel in advance.Similarly you can not get a boat to go to the ernakulam side after about 8pm.Anyway pls check the current situation. Also you don't have anyother restauarnt other than the one attached to the Palace.
Its really a nice place and very much accessible from the heart place Cochin(Middle part of Kerala).Nearest airport is Nedumbassery International Airport, Nedumbassery,Ernakulam.Bolgatty Palace is nearly 20 km from the said airport.

Step1:Airport to Ernakulam city(20 KM)
Step2:Ernakulam City to Bolgatty Palace(2 minutes journey in Boat::5/- INR only)
Step3:International facility of stay is available in this Island.(Taj Residency)
Its a very safe place too.Don't worry.Go and enjoy.
