If you mean the French Riviera, check out We rented a great 3 bedroom villa in Bellvieu (between Nice and Monaco) for about 1000-1200 euros per week. Its not crowded there and great place for family. Nice & Monaco are just a short, cheap busride away (abt 15 euros per week, unlimited) Car rental could be a problem, there. Don't remember the exact listing, but bellvieu - "architect designed villa" was the best I can recall.

The Quest Features & Footage is an independent media initiative based in Kochi, India. It is an outcome of the concern felt by a group of journalists in the print and electronic media about the content of the mainstream media. The attempt is to promote journalism that digs below the surface to throw light on conditions determining real social development.
The Quest undertakes innovative research, documentation and dissemination of information

They very much remind me of independent minded journalists who are interested in social welfare of their communities. They remind me of the courageous people at

The authoritarian malaysian government tried to shut them down a couple of times.

Popular with tourists

by Willettsworld about Chariot Beach Restaurant

This place is very popular with western tourists and was very full when I ate here with a Swiss couple I met up with in Ooty. You can watch one of the chef's cooking naan's, prawns and fish on skewers in a large circular metal oven on wheels outside near your table. Food was pretty good plus they also sell "special tea", otherwise known as beer which comes served in teapots in order to keep local plod happy!

Saint Francis Church

by Avieira67

It was the first European Church established by the Europeans in India. Initially, in 1503, the Portuguese erected a wooden church dedicated to Saint Bartolomeu. Later, the Franciscan friars renovated the structure in masonry and the roof was furnished with tiles. Then the chucrh was dedicated to St. António, the patron Saint of Portugal. In 1663, the Duch converted it into a Protestant church. After 1795, under British dominion, this church was transferred to the Anglican Communion under British Government and the name was changed to St. Francis Church. In 1947, the church beacame a part of the Protestant Church of South India.
The internal chamber houses the Portuguese (northern side) and the Dutch (southern side) tombs under the grounds and walls. The world-famed Portuguese sailor and the first European to visit India, Vasco da Gama, was also entombed in the ancient church. His remains were transferred to Lisbon after 14 years of his death, but the tomb is still preserved in at the base in the southern side of the church.
In April 1923, under the Protected Monuments Act of 1904, Saint Francis Church became a protected monument. In 1920, the Cenotaph in memory of the residents of Kochi who fell in the First Great War was erected.

Kathakali make-up

by cadzand

Make up in Kathakali, a very elaborate process, takes a long time to be complete before an actor is ready to appear before the audience. Along with the peculiar and gorgeous costumes, the make up gives an ultra terrestrial effect to the characters represented in the Kathakali.
Be there one hour before the show starts and you'll witness this very important part of the Kathakali performance.

Mattancherry Palace

by Willettsworld

Built by the Portuguese in 1557, the Mattancherry Palace is an oriental architectural delight. It is also known as the Dutch Palace as the Dutch renovated it in 1663.

The palace is a double storied quadrangular building, surrounding a central courtyard containing a Hindu temple (see next tip). It has an impressive picture gallery with 17th century murals, depicting scenes from the Indian mythologies. The palace also displays the dresses, turbans, weapons, and palanquins of Rajas of Kochi.

Open: 10am-5pm except on Fridays and National Holidays. Photography is not permitted.
