Backwater Apartment Hotel
This hotel lists itself as a “backwater apartment hotel,” which is accurate. It’s on the river and is surrounded by high-rise apartment buildings that look just like the hotel. There are single and double rooms, but the majority of the accommodations are 2- or 3-bedroom/living room/kitchen suites. The facilities and services are obviously designed for business travelers, although they can arrange some tourist things too – backwaters cruises, visits to nearby places in Kerala, etc. It’s not a charming place or convenient for tourists, but it is clean and quiet, the restaurant is decent, the staff are friendly and helpful, and the pool is nice.
It’s well south of the center of Ernakulam, so you will need to arrange transportation to get anywhere. The desk staff will arrange a car, or you can walk to the main junction (about 5 minutes) where there are usually ricks available. A ride to the ferries takes about 15 minutes; into Fort Kochi takes about a half an hour.

Nice place, somewhat out of the way
We were in town for a wedding and most guests stayed here due to its size and facilities and because the reception was held here. The hotel is more like short-term apartments than a typical hotel. Each unit had separate bedrooms w/ ensuite bathrooms, living/dining and a kitchen. The building is taller than most anything around it, hence there is a good view of the area. It is not very close to the center of town (15 min. rickshaw ride) but hotel staff will help with taxi arrangements, ayurvedic spa recommendations, etc. There is also local bus service (if you can figure it out) as well as the ubiquitious auto-rickshaws a short walk up the road. In-house restaurant was decent. A single computer was available for Internet access near the lobby.
Bathrooms were not luxurious but pretty good. Showers were enclosed within a curtain so the whole bathroom doesn't get wet like in some Indian hotels. Hot water was produced in those individual electric hot water heaters. The heater was big enough and lasted long enough for a decent shower. Elevators were surprisingly slow considering how new the building is.
Unique Quality: Tall building, good view of the "backwaters". Pool was clean and well kept. Accommodating, professional staff.
