Hi there, Kochi is a fantastic place. There is a lot to do. I'm not sure about the accomodation (resort), there are great places. I have references of wbsites on my page on Kochi - one one Cochin and one on Kerela, sure you will find the resort on one of those sites. Let me know if you have any more questions.

No idea about Riverdale resort ...may be you can check with tripadvsor where people who stayed there would surely comment.

If you wish to stay in a quiet place (infront of the sea), you should find an accommodation in Cochin island ( Kochi has Ernakulam which is the actual city and Cochin island that is quiet with port and warehouses and very good hotels)
However the prices of the rooms are high in Cochin Island.

Cochin is a place to be seen --visit to jews syngague, spices street, Fort, chinese fishing nets, temples, a cheap boat ride to smaller islands, etc etc. You can also witness one of the popular classical dances called Katahakali,
Cochin being a financial capital of Kerala, you get all facilities in the city. Let me know as to the number of days you intend to stay and your budget for the hotel so that more suggestions can be given.

Travel Tips for Kochi

Hareesh and his Ferrari Part 2

by cochinjew

Because of his friendliness and his way of talking, I decided to give him a Che coin from Cuba and he was very happy. He wanted to give me his emal . I gave him my card with my email in it. He took me back to the hotel and from there to the jetty from which I was to take a ferry to Ernakulum. While at the jetty, he wanted to take a picture with me and said that he was going to put my visiting card and our picture together in his autorikshawa and hoped that it would become an eye catcher for the tourists he hopes to ferry in his Ferrari, in actual fact a Bajaj autor rikshaw. He was laughing and joking with his fellow auto rikshaw drivers and when I said good bye to him I knew I have met a happy man.

FRresh Dining by the water

by cochinjew about Fort House Restaurant

Thte tables are set on a patio built into the waters edge at the Hotel. There are not many tables, guarantee of privacy and idyllic romance. It is nice to watch the lights of Ernakulam in the distance and observe the boats passing like ghosts through the night.
Very good service. No alcohol is served. Fruit juices and soft drinks.
very reasonably priced for the setting and the quality of food Egg Plant Curry in spices/ginger/garlic
dhal ( lentils)
ladys finger curry (okra) in cocnut cream/ginger/garlic
Coconut rice, grated coconut and spices
Appams, local rice pancake

Excellent Service and special mention should be made of Nimesh Karthikeyan, a baby faced waiter

The fish market

by ranger49

The Market is a lively and colourful place to visit.
It would have been even better if we had been in a position to buy the fresh fish and take it home to cook - but on a cruise no chance.
We enjoyed the atmosphere and chat, and the sight of fisn freshly caught in the traditional manner.
On the morning of our visit tourists were in the minority and it was a good opportunity to wander round a local market with local people.

Of course the Synagogue

by cochinjew

Consecrated in 1568, this oldest synagogue in the British Commonwealth is built on the site of another synagogue which had stood there from 1311. Paradesi Jews ( meaning foreigners ) came here after the expulsion of jews from spain joining the other jews from arab lands and middle east who had been here for nearly 2000 years.
copper plates which gives the land to the jews written in old malayalam is kept under lock and key.
chinese tiles.
lamps and chandeliers.
the torah one of which was a gift of the maharajah.
many headstones from the cemetery.
This is the major attraction for foreigners in Mattanchery .
