Alcohol licences
by paul-motley
A liquor licence in Karalla apparently cost a fortune so most establishments do not have them although they still serve alcohol knowing if they are caught they face a few days in goal. Kingfisher lager is usually available and local brand spirits are served which can be a bit potent (they creep up and knock your legs from under you). If you want branded product then go to the Taj Green hotel or for home consumption the liquor store at Kovalam Junction. Wine is sold at most hotels but at a very premium price, hotel drinks are normally listed on the bill as "specials", some of the bars on the front of Lighthouse Beach serve the beer in Teapots to pour into cups.

Perhaps the best in Decor on the beach. The restaurant is located at a height so try and get tables overlooking the beach. The interiors is done up in a very green manner with beautiful illuminated palms serving as props. Fusion Cuisine
The Backwaters (1)
by suvanki
Cruising The Backwaters, something all visitors to Kovalam should experience. There are many ways to experience their delights. Either independently or through an organised tour, whether as a day /evening or night trip or spending a few days/nights on a rented rice boat.
This network of canals, rivers, lakes and islands offers not just a relaxing time drifting through stunning scenery, but also a chance to see village life as the local inhabitants go about their daily lives on and around the waterways.
Also see my Kerala page for more views of The Backwaters...tho still in progress
