Best place to stay

The accomodation was very good and reasonable. For a room with a view of the Anairangal dam , we were changed 1600 rs per day.. ( club Mahindra and other resorts charge rs 4500)
The resort is surrounded by dense forests and cardamom estates. Though the resort didnt have a restaurent when we visited, the owner was kind enough to arrainge for a cook . we were charged 600 rs per day for tea, breakfast, lunch and dinner, which for both of us was a very good deal. Great view from the tree top house, very warm and friendly staff. great experience in all.
Club Mahindra Lakeview Resort was a great place to stay

We own two weeks here and really enjoy the location and all that the Club Mahindra Lakeview Resort Munnar offers. The Club Mahindra Lakeview Resort Munnar was a great place to stay and made everyone feel welcome. It is a weathered resort but the location more than makes up for it. The staff make sure you have everything you need. When I stayed there the staff were the best. We love the location and can't wait until we can return for our second week in Nov. just right for the down to earth people!

"Club Mahindra" is located at a very peaceful and convenient location in the outskirt of Munnar. Each rovides a excellent view of lake and a tea garden. It is a ideal place to stay for tourist.
Hospitality at the hotel in awesome and staff is extremely helpful and courteous.
Rooms and bathrooms are beautifully designed and are equipped with excellent furniture.
Dining options available in hotel are great. One can look forward to a vide variety of food items to eat there. Everyday in the evening they organizes one or the other event so one can look forward to spend an evening in style. When I stayed they organized, live music, bonfire and DJ night.
My family thoroughly enjoyed their stay here and I look forward to stay there again in our future trip to Munnar.
Thanks to "Club mahindra" for making my honeymoon holidays memorable. I would give this hotel a rating of 5 out of 5.
Not worth the trip..

I guess a lot of travellers to Club Mahindra on this site are Honeymooners and hence the rave reviews. I really didnt find a lot of positives on my 2 night stay there. The 1st problem with Club Mahindra is that it is almost 20kms from Munnar town tru a small winding hill road , though the view is superb, the hotel is not any big shakes. If u dont have your own conveyance then get ready to be taken for a ride by the touts and travel cars outside the resort. Also when you need to go sightseeing like the Dam, one has to travel 20kms to Munnar town and another 20 kms to the dam and its its really painful.
The rooms especially the cottages are a painful climb (or a wait for the inhouse cars)and give u an errie feeling of being alone. The rooms though big are not in the class of a 5star hotel this resort proclaims itself to be.it is at best a 3 star resort. The rooms in the main buiding are much smaller and decent but the noise of cars coming into and out of the reception will be heard all day long. No swimming pool in this resort.
Being in middle of nowhere , the hotel knows most of its coustmers will have to dine in the premises itself and one can see the rates are also on the higher side. Breakfast buffet is Rs 200+ and lunch and dinner are more than double of that .The food is bland and many of the items of the morning and lunch are remodelled as another dish at Dinner and viceversa.
Really id be better off going to Marrari beach resort or spend additional 2 days in a Cochin 5 star hotel for the price i paid for Club Mahindra.
Excellent Place, Could do with a little better service management
by TripAdvisor Member VK_The_Traveller
I had been to Lakeview Resort, Munnar with my family of 5 people. The 21 KM ride from Munnar is a ride that I will never forget. It was quite late in the eveing, misty, and were very unsure of the Roads. We had no clue whether we were on the right road and had to depend on cues and one odd frail looking watchman who would frailly lift his hand in the direction of the resort. That way Club Mahindra has done very little (rather, nothing) to make known of its existence to the outside world. Thankfully, our numbers in terms of family size helped us through this nail-biting trip.
We got there at around 10 PM, and found that we had not been allocated 2 rooms as per the communication that we had received and they were trying to convince us that we had booked one room only. We were visiting on a gift package to my mom by my Uncle. We had to contact my Uncle in Chennai, get his confirmation and then convince the management that the mistake was indeed theirs. They finally agreed and gave us the two rooms. By the time the allocation was done it was close to 11:30 PM.
Thereafter, the time that we spent at the resort was very memorable. I would suggest that every person visiting this place should go for the Villa / Cottage. These are lovely.
We kept ourselves busy with Massages / TT / Billiards and of course.... GLASS PAINTING. I started glass painting for the first time in my life and found myself patiently do it all up. If you want to carry your Glass Painting with you in a done up stage, don't wait for the last day. Start, at the latest, one day prior to your departure. Drying and coloring takes time.
Some things that you should remember apart from the points that others have made :
(a) Try not to have the food delivered to your rooms. They are much more costlier and quantity wise very less. I would advise one to avail of the Combi Offer given at the restuarant, which works out much cheaper.
(b) There are only 2 masseur tables, and hence Ayurvedic Massages are by appointment only. Book your timing well in advance.
(c) If you are in a group, TT, Carrom or Billiards offer an excellent pastime. You don't need to know billiards. You know Carrom ? Excellent... Substitute coins with billiard balls. You've learnt a new game. No expectations, no eyes looking at what you do... make this a time when you live life with absolute abandon.
(d) Have a slow walk through the long winding plantations. Remember, oxygen is lower than at sea level. The resort becomes the world for you in those few days. Try avoiding the TV, (if its functional...set-top box issues were rampant, when I had been there, so there was only one doordarshan channel like in old days ! )
(e) Last, but not the least, please be clear on the room reservation details. You need to be clear on what you were promised, what you were given and what you are billed for. If there is one area where Club Mahindra scored almost zero is in the reservation and accomodation management. Thankfully, for them there are other departments like activity centers, massage centers, who kind of make up for the mahem that the reservation counters create. This is a regular feature.
If privacy and coziness is what you seek , far away from the maddening world, this is an experience you won't forget. This is in spite of all the bad management and poor services. A Five Star rating for this resort is slightly misleading from the services perspective, but the experience otherwise was memorable and good. I believe in living with the happier moments that we got, and that was provided at Club Mahindra.
Below Expectations : Not to be classified as a 5 star

We stayed 2 nights at the Club Mahindra Lakeview Resort - Munnar. Although it has magficient views overlooking a lake and tea plantations, our overall experience with the hotel was poor.
Where we were allocated the cottages, we had to climb more than 100 steps (there is the option to use the hotel bus). The service was poor, particularly the room service. We had to wait nearly 1.5 hours for 2 bottles of beer to be delivered. We were were always promised that the "porter" was on his way and should be within 5 minutes. The Manager never returned any calls for making a complaint.
The quality of food was also poor. Although it had many dishes for the buffett, the food was always "cold" despite being kept on a warmer. The cold plates did not help. The food taste was awful and many dishes were revoltibg.
The service from the waiters was also very poor. They were just hanging around, and it appeared that they were not trained.
The checking out at reception was also very chatoic despite requesting in advance the previous night that the bills should be ready by 8.30am, the following morning.
Good but expensive

Stayed at Club Mahindra (CM) from 28 Jul - 01 Aug '07. We stayed in the villa which was HUGE and had an awesome view of the valley.
Things you should know.
1. The rooms in the main building are small and quite awful. We were lucky to have got the villa through our time share program.
2. The food is VERY EXPENSIVE and quite ordinary. Plain rice at 150 odd bucks. Plain Dal again at 150 odd bucks. Paneer Makhanwala was the worst I have eaten in all of India.
The combo meals (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner OR Breakfast & Lunch or Dinner) that they have turn out to be relatively economical. But the food and desserts are just about OK. The pastries available separately are quite good.
3. There is a grocery store on the property which sells everything at MRP which is a good thing. They had a few to ready to eat items which I preferred to the hotel cooked meals.
4. The resort is about 15 kms from main Munnar town.
5. The Sterling Resort which is abt 5 mins walking distance from CM serves excellent food which is very reasonable priced. You can go there for lunch. Can't walk there at night since there are no street lights and it is pitch black on the way.
6. There is a taxi stand just outside the hotel. It is better if you speak to them directly and not use the services of the hotel travel desk since they also hire the services of the taxis outside and charge you 250 extra as their commission.
This was my 2nd trip to Munnar and I had gone there just to relax. The weather was awesome. Persistent drizzle for a few hours but it wasn't bad enough to spoil anyones outdoor plans. I would have enjoyed much more if the food was better. Having bad food and paying heavily for it put me off.
Few other important notes.
1. Hiring a pre-paid cab from Cochin Airport will set you back by about Rs 2200. Therefore you should try and contact a taxi owner based in Munnar. He will pick you up from the airport and charge you about 1500. This could go up by 200-300 during season.
2. Buy your spices/dry fruits from the main Munnar town. There was a shop called Trishna which we found to be the best.
Munnar- Heaven on earth

"Munnar- Heaven on earth"
One of the most memorable places I have ever visisted in my whole life. Havent seen a place thats so serene, beautiful & unspoilt. Munnar is completeley covered with tea plantations. The scenic beauty of these tea plantation is a feast to the eyes.
"Accomodation"
My advise to all those people planning to visit Munnar is not to stay in Munnar city, the place is crowded with tourists, taxis and hotels. The best resorts like Club Mahindra, tea county, Fort Munnar, siena village are located 20-25 kms away from Munnar.
The place i stayed was " JD homestay" a new resort ( we were the first guests to stay there). Beautiful in all aspects. The place was 4 kms away from Club Mahindra in a village caleld "suriyanalle", a beautful village, great scenic beauty with small water stream flowing everywhere.
This resort has a view of the anairangal dam. The upcoming treep top house has the best view.
"Places to Visit"
Munnar has lot to offer.
Places one can visit are Madupetty dam, echo point, Anairangal dam, Thekkady. Kullukumalai ( highest natutal tea estate in the world) etc.

Club Mahindra resort complimentary stay
by guruprasadrao
We have received a complimentary stay of 2n/3 d in Club Mahindra Kodagu Valley resort in Madikeri, Coorg, Karnataka. Has anyone stayed in Mahindra resorts? Do they have any hidden charges during the stay for such free offers? Also is it difficult to get around this particular resort if we do not have our own car with us?
Re: Club Mahindra resort complimentary stay

I wonder if there is such a thing as a free lunch ......
Re: Club Mahindra resort complimentary stay

I would have thought that you would have to pay for your meals.
Some hotels offer free accomadation with the view that you will have at least two meals a day at their restaurant.

dear.., maximum club mahindra resorts are situated far fromthe main tourist place,, they are not around the hub so you would need to travel from the resort(if you want to visit the main tourist hub..may not be true for all the resorts , but all that i have visited are what i said) for meals well they will give you a a meal package that works cheap than going outside and eating and if you are light eaters you can have your a la carte....as mentioned it ill be long for u to go outside the resort as it is away from the bustle...Club mahindra want their guest to enjoy the resort and not mere spend the night..
please note again i have not visited this resort so please ask them the points i mentioned
Travelling in and around Munnar
by ADboy
We are planning our first trip to Munnar in July. Will be staying at the Club Mahindra Lake View.
Has anyone on VT stayed at this Resort?
How far is the resort from Cochin airport??
Does anyone have any idea how much the taxi fare would be from the airport to the resort?
Is it easy to hire a car around the resort?
How much would it cost to hire a car for 7 days?
I know I'm asking too many questions but it would be great if you guys could help!!!

Haven't styed at Club Mahindra but it looks good from outside.
Munnar is about 4-5 hrs drive from Cochin airport. If you are looking at a taxi drop to Munnar only, it will cost you about say Rs 2000 ( as the taxi will charge you for the return trip also). Taxis in India ( small car such as Indica) costs you about Rs 1200 per day but you ned to bargain. For a definite answer to the cost, I leave this for VTers from Cochin.

Munnar is over 180 km from Cochin. Suggest you book a cab for your entire stay from Cochin to Munnar to Cochin. Cabs charge a minimum of 200 km a day at around Rs 5 a km. You can use it to Thekkady, Kumarakom & Allepey.
Do keep me posted on your Munnar exp. we are planning a trip to Munnar during early april.

PLEASE TAKE YOUR OWN TRANSPORT AT ALL COSTS IF YOU STAY AT CLUB MAHINDRA.the resort is far from munnar town on chinnkanal road and taxi operators can fleece you when you come to munnar town or surrounding areas.
best is to book on kerala.com a scorpio which picks you up at airport and stays with you for whole trip it works out to be cheaper in final calc.
see my tourist trap tips on munnar page.
Please provide details regarding buses from Alwaye to Kallar
by srividhya
Hello,
I am planning to visit munnar in this month. And the accomodation is in "Forest Hevan Resort". How is the resort? Is it decent and reliable?
And how to go from Alwaye railway station to the hotel? Any bus facility available? If so, could you please give the timings and how much time it will take to reach from Alwaye to the mentioned resort?
And i heard that auto rikshaw's are good for local sight seeing. Is it true or shall we hire a taxi? It should be economic. And what about hiring bicycle or two wheeler?
Please provide me with the details.
Thanks.
