How to save money on vacation in Kerela

I am planning for 10days vacation in Kerela. Which all places should I goto and how can I save money on accomodation as the rates are quite high at this time of the year.

Some of the ways you can save money is to avoid star hotels and go in for B&B or guest houses or YMCA, eat nutritiously at Udipi-like 'dhabhas', travel by bus rather than taxis, bargain real hard, walk the short distances. Do visit the Kerala pages on VT. There is a wealth of information there.

Travel Tips for Munnar

Neelakurinji

Besides tea estates, Munnar is known for Neelakurinji, the flower that blooms only every 12 years. Official information says Neelakurinji can be found next in year 2006. In reality, the flower blooms in different hills each year. However, it's very difficult to find them if you don't know where there are blooming.

Mattupetty.

Mattupetty is situated 13 km from Munnar at a height of 1700m, Mattupetty is known for its hightly specialised dairy farm-the Indo Swiss Livestock Project. Over a 100 varieties of high -yielding cattle are reared here. Visitiors are allowd into 3 of the 11 cattle sheds fof the farm.
Visiting time 9 am 11 am and 1400 pm to 15.30 pm.
The Mattupetty Lake and dam , jst a short distance from the farm, is a very beautiful picnic spot. The sprawling kundala tea plantations and Kundala lake are other ottractions in the vicinity. DTPC Idukki provides boating facilities on the Mattupetty Dam. Speed launch and motorboats are available on the hire.
