Munnar Holiday trip

by sadanand

We as a gourp of 8 adults and 6 children were planning to visit Munnar on 20th May to 22 May. 2 Nights 3 days. The 3 days is sufficient to see all the places in Munnar. We are coming from Secunderabad (Andhra Pradesh)via Coimbatore. So how to come to Munnar or which is the nearest railway station. From there how to come to Munnar. On 22nd May night we should come back to Coimbatore. We want total package cost or individual

Hi,

Ernakulam(Cochin/Kochi) is the nearest station, however one can come via Coimbatore as well, will be a 4 hours journey from Coimbatore to Munnar, from Ernakulam station its about 2.5 hours.

Set 1 place to go per day, not much to do except the garden, boating(there's a speed boating 45 mins drive from Munnar town - on the way there is a dam and the botanical garden) and market, but otherwise enjoy the climate.

Hire a tempo traveller for the 3 days, should cost you around Rs13,000/ for the 3 days. Food is priced reasonably at Munnar, you could take a 5 bedroom homestay/cottage which would cost you around Rs6,000/ a night or take rooms at Rs1000-1500/ a night.

You can do the math in terms of total costs.

Hi.. Let me share my munnar trip experience, might be helpful for you.

There are many places to visit in munnar and ofcource 3days trip is bit short. so plan your trip perfectly so you will not miss anything there.

Local people are very friendly and very helpful. The taxi drivers treat tourists like guest. They hardly cheat, still dont hegitate to haggle when finalizing the fare and deal with one taxi and finalize your all 3day trip with him.So the taxi can plan for you and let you explore one side of munnar in one day.

The great places to visit include tea gardens, the dam, grass lands, national park, ervikulam wildlife sanctuary(nilgiri),lion point, waterfall and many more..(ahh I cant recall all).Dont forget to request the driver to take you one of the tea factories and a near by sandalwood jungle.

To reach munnar from bangalore, we 1st travelled to coimbatore by train. From coimbatore (Ukadam bus stand) We travelled to Udamalpethu by bus and from there we got karala transport bus to reach munnar. All total its approx 4hrs bus journey. But the Kerala transport buses were dated and the road was very bumpy. So dont know how comfortable will this be for your family(though the shortest way to reach Munnar).Well it was the story in 2007, dont have exact idea about current bus services.Leave munnar by 12noon to reach coimbatore back by evening. The bus service is notoriously irregular.

You can get a better and cheaper hotel deal if can spend some time on net in searching about it.I stayed in a hotel called "Forest heven resorts".It was a good resort, but better place for couples.

Wish you will have a great trip.. :D
Cheers!!!!

Travel Tips for Munnar

cheeyapara waterfalls

by pravdr

travelling from kochi to munnar after the initial steep ascent you suddenly come across a big white milky waterfall with a big roar.
known as cheeyapara the water cascades down in seven steps adding to the grandeur and the atmosphere.
unlike other waterfalls you can be very close to the waterfall without being in danger.a small observation culvert ensures that your vehicle is not on the road and allows you time to get out and refresh yourself.
BEST TIME TO VISIT august september just after the rains when the falls are at their magnificent best.

Munnar-Almost A Paradise

"To Munnar"

The route from Kochi to Munnar itself is a beautiful experience. Though I also had the luxury of my beautiful wife sleeping on my lap and an a/c indigo, the route is breathtaking at places. Littered with numerous waterfalls, hillocks, valleys, you are tempted to get down at every next curve and capture the beauty. The green landscape is very refreshing.
