Planning a Trip from June 18, 2010 Onwards

by tinting

Hi, I plan to travel to Munnar, Thekkady around 18 June with my wife and 1.5 yrs old daugther. Given the monsoon season and a baby, is it advisable to visit Munnar around these dates? If the downpour is heavy, we wouldnt be able to enjoy as much. Thus wanted to have an opinion if it makes sense to plan such trips during those dates.

I had taken a trip to Kerela during november yr before last. The climate then was wonderful. Except for Kovalam, there was not much rain trouble. But June may be a problem. So, personally I would prefer going there during the early winter.

Anyway, whatever you decide, Have a nice trip :-)

Hi

My home was 30 km away from Munnar. I stayed there fro 2 yrs but it was 1995- 1997. I have visited Munnar n--number of time and every season. In my view going munnar in rainy season is not a good idea, unleass you are a person who enjoys rainy holidays. During the rains due to clouds you will not be able to enjoy the views which are the USP of Munnar..

My freind is working over there. He said it's raining over there and it's very cool. Your child won't be able to bare the chillness.

Better plan for any other place in kerala. I think you can contact some travelling site. They can give you a clear idea. You don't have to pay them for enquiries. Just fill your information in website with contact number or email.

During the rain Kerala is a wonderful place, especially Kerala backwater. But with so young kid it's not advisable to go during monsoon.

Travel Tips for Munnar

ELEPHANT RIDE

by pravdr

on the way to madupetty we came across "malathi" the cow elephant giving rides to excited foreign tourists.
along the roadside was a small canopy below the level of road which is her home.
at INR 150 per person maximum 3 people at a time it was a good deal remember it takes upto INR60000 pm to maintain an elephant.
so these rides add to the income of the "mahout"elephant keeper to sustain both of them.
sometimes these animals also get tired especially during peak tourist season.
the ride can be a daunting experience as you have to stretch your legs to the maximum so they start aching when you are over with the ride.there are some saddles where you can seat with legs on one side which is very comfy but then you miss out the view as the elephant makes forward progress.
elephant hairs are prickly and long.
elephants are preferrred mode of transport in wildlife viewings as they move so silently and their deftnes and agility is remarkable for their sheer size.
they can cover difficult terrains easily.
as you take the elephant ride you are quite a part of the spectacle as tourists in vehicles who have never seen an elephant stop and photograph the show.
AN ABSOLUTE MUST FOR ANY TRAVELLER TO INDIA.
also plz do not forget to feed a small bunch of bananas from nearby shop to these giants after work well done!!!!they love it.

Rajamala

by ushar

This natural habitat of the Nigiri tahr is situated 15 km from Munnar. Half of the world population of the rare mountain goat (hemitragas bylocres) which is fast becoming extinct, is now found here. The nilgiri tahrs are today reduced to small herds found in the Eravikulam- Rajamala region.
