Planning to visit Munnar on 2nd week of July, Please Help

by ravirathi

Hi,
I am planning to visit Munnar with my wife on my Fist wedding Anniversary in 2nd week of July for 4 days frmo Bangalore. Main Moto is to relax & enjoy not to visit many places.
I am thinking to reach Cochin in the morning by Train & from there take package tour to avoid tiring overnight bus journey. 2 night stay in munnar & one in House boat.

Can you please help me answering my following query.

1. Is it the good time to visit Munnar in July.
2. is my plan is correct or it can be changed in better way for 4 days munnar tour.
1st Day by evening we will reach Munnar. morning we will reach Cochin & then from thr Munnar. Night stay in Munnar.
2nd Day Munnar site seeing & night stay in munnar.
3rd Day leave to allapey for House boat & night stay in House Boat.
4th Day Reach Cochin & catch night Train to Bangalore.

3. Will 2 nights & one day will be enough to Visit Munnar or do i need to extend my tour one one more day.

4. Will it be good to go thru Travel agent or book the resort & taxi from own.
5. Any idea about Blackberry hill resort or any other better 3 star resort. Mahindra club is beyon our budget.

6. One Travel agent is asking for 18200 Rs for my trip including accommodation with breakfast, all meals in the houseboat and ac car for Balckberry Hills. Is it worth to pay for this 4 days trip.

Thanks in Advance,
Ravi

July is not so good time to visit Munnar since monsoon is active presently. However if you cannot change, no way, get prepared and just go ahead.
From Cochin to Munnar it takes about 4hrs one way.So you might reach Munnar by afternoon.

2full days and one night would be better than 2nights and one day since there is nothingto see in the night. Also it depends things you want to see and enjoy.A relaxed holiday would need 3days but if you cannot atleast 2 full days are necessary.

You can book on your own the resorts, house boats, taxi etc., in my opinion.
This is an offseason in Kerala and so you may negotiate the prices at hotels, taxis etc.

Not sure about Blackberry resort since not stayed there.

In Allepepy you can check some hoseboats and choose the one you like.and then negotiate the price. You can do this during Sept till Jan as it would be a peak tourist seaon.

Have a nice trip.

Thanks a lot Suru..
But still landed up in some confusion as below :
1. Considering the peak rainy season, Can i ignore houseboat stay & spend one more day in Munnar. Or 2 nights & 1.5 days will be enough to stay in Munnar. Its worth to stay one more day in Munnar.
2. Taking atxi from Coimbatore will be fine or We only get Taxi from Cochin only. I guess journey hours is same from Munnar to Cochin & Coimbatore right?

But from Bangalore Coimbatore is neared as comapares to Cochin.

Thanks,
Ravi

House boat charges for one night stay for a couple( enter around 11am and exit around 9-930am next day)is around Rs5000 on average.

It is difficult to give suggestion to ignore the houseboat stay or not because it depends on each individual.May be you can decide in Munnar?
As i suggested two full days are needed to go round and enjoy Munnar.

Since you will take a train to Cochin as told by you, suggested that you can take a taxi from cochin.Plenty are available.

If you take a taxi from Coimbatore, you would take a different route to Munnar(almost same time taken) and you might need to pay inter state permit charges additionaly.
All depends on your convenience and budget.

Travel Tips for Munnar

Warm Clothes

by francisjeffy

It is always better to travel light, If you plan to do excessive shopping, you can take a big bag with you. There are no branded stores in munnar where you can buy good quality shopping bags. Blue jeans, or cargo's will be good. You can take warm cotton or woolen clothes with you, A muffler will be helpful, especially if you are not usually comfortable in cold climates.A good Leather shoes is highly recommended, it will help your feet stay warm, and give good grip on steep roads. And if you are traveling by motorcycle, a good rain wear jacket and a good full covered helmet will be very useful. There is a pharmacy in Munnar town, and you can find all the basic toiletries inMunnar town department stores It is better to buy films and batteries from your home town, Films are expensive in any tourist spots. and once you leave munnar town you wont be able to find a store to buy batteries.

The Bazaar Area

by suvanki

Lots of local colour. Shops kiosks and market stalls. Cows wandering freely.
Fresh fruits, veg etc as well as household goods etc....

A good place to stock up on fresh fruit, nuts and sweets etc.

Plenty of atmosphere, and local colour.

A photographers paradise, but ask 1st!

Munnar - A Paradise

by ajayzener

Munnar - breathtakingly beautiful - a haven of peace and tranquility - the idyllic tourist destination in God's own country. Set at an altitude of 6000 ft in Idukki district, Munnar was the favored summer resort of the erstwhile British rulers in the colonial days. Unending expanse of tea plantations - pristine valleys and mountains- exotic species of flora and fauna in its wild sanctuaries and forests - aroma of spice scented cool air - yes! Munnar has all these and more. It's the place you would love to visit - it's the place you would wish never to leave.
