Help! Trying to find (what looks like) brass/pewter indoor plant pots

by xtielee

I am new to the city and I am trying to find those huge indoor plant pots that look like pewter/brass/copper. Does anyone have any idea where I can locate them or indeed any other good quality indoor plant pots?
Many many thanks

Travel Tips for Thiruvananthapuram

Banana Pancakes

by blissgirl

There is a small shack-style restaurant on Lighthouse baech, Kovalam, which serves the best ever Banana Pancakes.
Sit and watch the sunset, have a smoke and be prapared to wait a good 2h for it to arrive, -the pancake that is......
..they can be quite slow, but it´s worth it! Sunset, banana pancakes, and bumping into Paul from round-the-corner of where i lived in Manchester....-the global village!

Travel Light!

by suvanki

Light sturdy luggage to withstand the rigours of airport handlers, and also light enough for your transfer to hotel/ accom. Long sleeved shirts, cotton trousers, long dresses/skirts, especially if visiting museums, palaces etc.
It can be hot and humid.
Shorts (even long Bermuda style) can cause offence in Trivandrum - see my Warnings and Dangers tip
Comfy shoes - slip on/off - socks - You need to remove your shoes when entering museums, palaces etc. Carry all essential medicines (and prescriptions/certificates etc) Immodium etc. eye drops - it can be dusty Kerala is a photographers delight, so carry as much as you can!
Trivandrum has some pic worthy sights. Shops/kiosks sell films.
Be aware of locals not wanting their pic taken - or of the request for money if you do take a pic! wet wipes, anti-bacterial handwash, toilet paper/tissues. Sun screen. Bottled water.

Auto-rickshaws are a popular, easy and inexpensive way of getting around. I did find the drivers in Trivandrum to be pleasant and more honest than in many other places I've been to in India.
A short trip in Trivandrum should hardly ever be more than Rs50. A trip to Kovalam and back, should cost about Rs300, depending on how long the driver has to wait for you. I had a great driver who took me to Kovalam, Vizhinjam and stopped several times along the road for me wanting to take pictures. We trip took about 3 hours or more, he wanted Rs400, but I thought Rs500 would be a better fare.

Puthe Maliga Palace Museum

by Willettsworld

This palace was built in the 1840s by Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma, the ruler of the princely state of Travancore. It is located near the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple and is a wonderful example of traditional Keralan architecture, with its typical sloping roofs, overhanging eaves, pillared verandahs and enclosed courtyards. Intricate carvings adorn the wooden ceilings with each room having a distinctive pattern. The palace is also known as Kuthira Malika (Mansion of Horses), taken from the 122 horses that are carved into the wooden wall brackets that support the southern roof.

The building was left unoccupied for more than a century, following the demise of Swathi Thirunal in 1846. However, part of the palace has been converted into a Palace Museum that houses some of the assets owned by the Travancore Royal Family. The collection includes Kathakali mannequins, Belgian mirrors, crystal chandeliers, paintings, armaments, musical instruments, traditional furniture and other artefacts.

Open: 8.30am-1pm & 3-5.30pm Tue-Sun. Admission: Rs20 plus Rs15 for camera.
