Trivandrum - Ayurveda and Diving

by lomi

We are a couple hoping to travel to Trivandrum in November, and stay possibly 2 weeks. We like a reasonably quite life (no night clubs, loud music etc) Can anyone tell us places to avoid staying and recommended places to stay. One of us would like to spend some time learning or receiving Ayurveda treatments, the other is a diver and looking for some good dive sites. We also prefer the countryside rather than visiting palaces and ancient sites.

I can also arrange Ayurvedic treatment in Cochin , KAPL - approved by department of tourism, Kerala. If you like you can also have a homestay tour to Alleppy where you can enjoy house boat in backwater. At Vagamon there is a plantation homestay where you can learn about spices especially vanilla. At there, enjoy natural pools and streams where you can swim.
I am sure you will get a wonderful experience at a lowest price - A homestay tour in kerala.
Keep in touch and ask your any doubts.

You won't find much night life in Trivandrum (or Kerala as a whole in that matter) anyway. Kovalam is a popular tourist beach destination. There are lots of ayurveda resort and centers in Kovalam as well. If you prefer non-touristy rural setting, I know an ayurveda doctor who stays in hill area. The only thing is he is in and out of country at times.

cheers

thank you for that info. let me have the dr's details, if he is not available perhaps he will know another reputable one - as I am aware not everyone is properly licensed to practice ayurveda

I suggest that you should contact this institution first before embarking on anything.
www.aryavaidyasala.com.
This is the most reputed institution in the state...But getting appointments is difficult..No one can get it for you..Contact them directly..For budget and quiet accommodation( cheap and neat ) contact KTDC and ITDC respectively..

I would suggest you to come over to my "Kerala village homestay" situated near Cochin International airport, just 20 minutes drive from the airport.

Kindly see my website: www.keralavillagehomestay.com for details about my homestay. My "Kerala Village Homestay" is one of the most sought-out homestay in the state of Kerala in India by tourists, which is set in an agricultural village.

And among the various types of homestays, Kerala village homestays occupy a significant importance. Kerala village homestays are set in a typical Kerala vilage atmosphere with paddy fields, coconut plantations, backwaters and many added attractions to the ambience. Kerala village homestays enable to get to know about Kerala in the real sense. Homestays set in the villages of Kerala provide facilties for the tourists to enjoy and relax their holidays away from the noise and pollution of the cities. Village homestays in Kerala enable tourists to view and enjoy the greenery of Kerala in its true meaning. In the village homestays of Kerala, one also gets to enjoy all the modern facilities of large spacious bedrooms having AC's and western style toilets as is available in a city hotel or a city homestay. Visitors get to taste delicious Kerala cuisine and eat with the family. Guests can also get to wear the traditional Kerala style of dress while staying at the village homestays in Kerala. Tourists can also view traditional Kerala dance forms and travel around the village on foot or by bicycle and since villages are less crowded, a travel on foot or on bicycle would be a pleasurable experience when compared to staying in a hotel or homestay in the city. So to experience and understand the real Kerala, homestays are the right choice and village homestays are the most preferred among them.

"Kerala Village homestay" has 4 large, spacious double ensuite rooms, clean Dining Hall; well-furnished Living Room; Common hall; Office Room with Computer having 24X7 internet facilities, fax and telephone, neatly maintained Kitchen; 2 Sit-outs and Balcony from where all guests can view the beauty of the village. "Kerala Village Homestay" provides homestay services at a reasonable fee to all tourists from across the world. "Kerala Village Homestay" have a broad range of activities by enabling the tourists to mingle with the people in the village by getting to know about Kerala culture and people. Tourists could join in for Yoga or Reiki class to relax the body and mind. Tourists could also join in for Ayurveda massage to rejuvenate body and mind, which is arranged at a nearby Ayurvedic centre of excellence. The "Kerala Village Homestay" also could also arrange tour packages according to tourist's interests.

My Kerala homestay or Vacation Villa (at Cochin, Ernakulam, Kerala) has a huge beautifully landscaped garden with Coconut trees and a small Mango tree within the garden. Betel nut (Arecanut), Coconut and Bananas are also grown to the right side land of the home stay bungalow which the guests could walk around and see. In the charming quietude of this Kerala home/villa, one may laze away your evening in the garden in a hammock or relax under the Coconut trees in the huge area of lush and verdant Coconut plantations near to the Bungalow and move into a wondrous and magical mood. One hears the rustle of the leaves as the cool evening mesmeric whispering breeze plays with them-Muse enough for a poet. Now and then, one can view some beautiful birds flying around.

The romanticism which the setting of our Homestay in Kerala or Vacation Villa in Kerala offers enable tourists to tranquil away from the busy life of cities. By the time one leave, one also know that along with us, nature also cares for you. It is a really incredible experience. Kindly browse my website: www.keralavillagehomestay.com for more details regarding my homestay.

Kindly inform me more details of becoming a homestay host/associate of your Organization.

Awaiting your reply with interest.

Some really good responses on this forum discussion.

I'm also looking for an ayurvedic medicine resort that i can visit for 30 days or more in Kerala. In my ideal situation, it would be located near a beach and/or other nice features, have access to the internet and have room, board and treatments all for under 2500 rupees per day. Any contact info/tips you can provide will be appreciated.

The only thing I'd add for other readers is that Trivandrum is a great jumping-off point for diving the Maldives...

Cooking

While staying at the Ambada guesthouse, we were invited into the kitchen to wathc Modun, the cook, prepare our dinner. As a keen cook and a lover of spices, I found it absolutely fascinating to see how he turned a few simple ingredients into a gourmet meal.

Delicacies of Kerala..

by ushar

For the those who enjoyes sea food ..Kerala is the place to taste diff verieties .
When u drive down from TVM on the national highway towards Kovalam , after Thiruvallom u will come across lot of small resturants both the side of the roads . Dare to enter in one of those and taste the typical kerala style sea food delicaciies..
Never miss Kerala style fish fry and fish curry in coconut milk and fish moley.
The taste u get here is diff than any Five star hotels...since here they cook in the traditional way and ofcourse fish is also not deepfreezed one..it is fresh..

by 1Janakivasan

This picnic spot, where the Veli Lake meets the Arabian Sea, offers boating facilities. Pedalboats and paddleboats can be hired to explore the charms of the lagoon in a leisurely manner. For a quick ride over the waters, speedboats are available for hire. Children enjoy climbing over the huge sculptures which dot the landscape.

Nearby is the Shankhumukham beach skirting theThiruvananthapuram International airport.
