I am planning to fly into Trivandrum in the wee hours and I have to hire a taxi to get to Nagercoil.

I see that there is a prepaid taxi service at the airport. SInce I will be arriving there at 3am not sure if the counter will be open.

Also any idea as to how much the ride will be.

Koyikkal Palace

The palace originally built for Umayamma Rani of the Venad royal family is now converted into Folklore Museum. Along with various traditional music instruments, agricultural tools and handicrafts, remians of Greek and Roman coins brought to Kerala by way of trade are among the collections. Models of Kerala ritual performance such as Theyyams are also exhibited.

The palace cum museum is located 18km from the city, in Nedumangad, on the way to Ponmudi Hill.

Puthe Maliga Palace Museum aka The Horse Palace

by suvanki

Open Tues-Sun 08.30- 12.30 and 1500 - 17.30

Charge for photography in grounds, think it was about 20 rupees

Photography inside is Strictly prohibited. OK to take photos of the outside.

Remove footwear at the door.

200 year old Palace of the Travancore Maharajas. Taking 5,000 workers 4 years to complete, many of the rooms have intricately carved ceilings made of precious woods.

Beneath the outside eaves are over 120 fine carvings of horses, (please see photos below)hence its alternative name.

The museum shows an insight into the lives of the royal family, with gifts and articles used reflecting the importance of trade links with China and Europe. Paintings, Bohemian crystal and Ivory are in evidence. Along with costumes and furniture including a throne made entirely of crystal.

The Museum guide was very knowledgeable, if a bit formidable! Her command to us all to "Look at the ceiling!" at each room we entered was ringing in my ears long after we'd left!!

It seemed to be a highly organised organisation, as groups were efficiently ushered through the various rooms . Might be a bit too quick for those wanting a leisurely browse!

Kerala is home to Ayuervedic Medicine. In places like Kovalam, treatments (massages) are offered for Rs 500, but I tried that and was quite disapointed. I went to a "proper" Ayuervidic Centre in Trivandrum - and had very good treatment. The doctor will see you first, and then the treatment (eg rejuvinating massage) is given by two therapists (masseus).
Name of the place:
Ayuerveda Bhavan
Rs 1000 per hour
