Hotel DM: Acceptable in sommer, bad in winter
Originally we intended to spend only afternoon in Gwalior but the fort and surroundings were much more interesting than we expected so we were looking for some cheap hotel for one night. Hotel DM is surprisingly quiet, taking into account the proximity of main road, our room had functionable TV and was relatively clean.
the room was however very small - we better left nearly everything in our backpacks and the hot water in cubes did not function as promised - we have got one cube and ordered another one but the guy did not appear again and I tried in vain to find anybody in the hotel :o(
As we were there in cold january 2008 the absence of hot water was really unpleasent....
The price for doubleroom was Rs 400,- (slightly bigger rooms were for 500,-)

Hotel Saya: Handy for the station
This hotel is located about a 5 minute walk away from the train station. The room I had (Rs425) was tidy and clean and featured a TV, 2 armchairs, wardrobe, table, dressing table, mirror and chair, bedside table, good doublebed, ceiling fan, tiled floor, bucket hot water and an ugly a/c unit in the middle of the windows. The hotel has no restaurant but does have room service which was pretty good. Their menu includes many items such as the usual beverages like tea/coffee, lime water/sodas, lassi's, water, milk; toast, sandwiches, omlettes, breads, salads, papads, Chinese dishes such as noodles, fried rice, chowmeins, sweet & sour, veggie Indian dishes and non-veg dishes such as handi, chilli & ginger chicken, egg curry plus veg and chicken burgers. The staff were friendly and helpful and aimed to please even if they hardly spoke any English.
