Narmada Retreat is located at Maheshwar (Madhya Pradesh, India), which is a heritage town and a cultural retreat 91 kms from Indore.

Maheshwar is known for Holkar era Fort complex and Maheshwari Sarees.

Sightseeing Options around Maheswar are :

Rajgaddi and Rajwada - A life-size statue of Rani Ahilyabai sits on a throne in the Rajgaddi within the fort complex.

Temples- With their soaring spires, the many-tiered temples of Maheshwar are distinguished by their carved overhanging balconies and their intricately worked doorways. Kaleshwar, Rajarajeshwara, Vithaleshwara and Ahileshwar are the temples to be seen .
Its a state run government resort located near on the bank of Narmada River & near palace. The views from the backyard of the resort are breathtaking. Especially in the morning hours. Food is basic but good.

Alipura Palace is situated 95 K.M. from Jhansi on Khajuraho road heart of Bundelkhand.The palace is about 300 years old.The rooms are very nice with many views.They offer also Lunch & Dinner.

There is many defrent views, in the north rockey hill, south-east Village view in the village see the real life of indian style and in the south there is big lake and gaths there local people washing the cloths.

Reasonably comfortable. So close to nature that you don't mind missing some of the comforts! Beware of mosquitoes & other biting insects, specially in evenings. A local chef will cook some tasty local food. Beware of "contaminated" water. Insist on bottled water or carry chlorine tablets.
There is a direct train (Utkal Express) from Delhi to Umaria. The journey is 19 hours. Umaria is 32 kilometers from the park and buses as well as jeep rides are available. other connections are available from various parts of the country to Satna, which is 120 kilometers away, Jabalpur (164km) and Katni (92km). We travelled by hired minibus (20 seats) from Nagpur (Maharashtra).

The nearest airport is Jabalpur (164 km). There are regular bus connections available.

The prices have changed since we last visited in 1991. Check it out at website below.

An excellent medium budget accommodation option is the goverment run "White Tiger Lodge". This offers excellent rooms and cottages at reasonable rates. It offers excellent catering facilities and is located right at the edge of the reserve. Some of the rooms are interesting built on stilts which gives it an interesting atmosphere, although sightings of animals below is becoming very rare with the passing of every season. This resort also offers conference facilities for corporates planning a trip to this area.

Churhat Kothi: Bandhavgarh's best accomodation

Churhat Kothi is the place to stay if one is visiting Bandhavgarh. It is set on the edge of the forest and is a few minutes away from the park entrance.

The place is extremely homely, staff excellent and the food is great. To top it all they have great naturalists who accompany you to the park.

The place has just twelve luxury tents and although they cannot guarantee you electricity all the time, they do assure you hot water. The tents are spaced out and it gives you the feeling that you are the only one staying there.

The main lobby also functions as the dining area and all the guests dine together. It is a beautiful place to sit at in the evenings. It looks out to a huge grassland where one more often than not sees a herd of deer passing by.

A: "Check out Orchha it is just outside Jhansi about 15km away. I have some photos on my VT page of Orchha. And visit to Gwalior is also worth it to see the huge fort..."
