The Sheesh Mahal
The Sheesh Mahal within the fort complex has been converted to a hotel and is run by the State Government’s tourist corporation. The hotel is not exactly like its original lavish state as a palace, it is still however very tastefully decorated with large rooms with balconies offering great views over the valley. It has been described as “most romantic place to stay in Madhya Pradesh.” It is also right in the heart of everything and surrounded by the Jehangir Mahal and the Raj Mahal.
The Sheesh Mahal hotel offers only 8 rooms, all with modern amenities, a restaurant which apparently is pretty good and and outdoor swimming pool.

Spending the Night in an Indian Palace
This was the first stop of our honeymoon tour. And yes, while we are budget travellers and not too picky about things, this is still a great place to stay. Not least for the fact that YOU ARE SPENDING THE NIGHT IN AN ABANDONED PALACE.

Unique Quality: The Maharaja Suite makes it all worthwhile. The marble bathtub is more like a small swimming pool. The commode is located in a turret, so you have almost a 360 degree view while sitting on your throne. The suite comes with its own courtyard/balcony/dining area. And the views over the landscape are enchanting.
