When I arrived at Aurangabad, my hair is so messy & long and I almost look like one of those African lions. So, to avoid all the dust (to be collected) and sweat (and smell) on my hair I opt to cut my hair in Aurangabad on New Year eve of 2006. I was quite surprised of the charges involved here and it save me so much money that I can buy 3 bottles of Kingfisher beer as compare to if I were to cut it in Malaysia. Anyway, I can consider myself having 2 free bottles of Kingfisher beer on New Year eve.

The Rs10 head massage is superb, so go get a hair cut here.

The Ellora Caves - Cave 10

by Paul2001

Cave 10 is commonly known as the Carpenter Cave. It is the most highly regarded of the Buddhists Caves in Ellora. The cave has a superbly carved, multi-storied facade. The interior is well preserved and has a long cathedral-like stupa hall which is also known as a chaitya. The ceiling of this hall is carved with beams and leads to a 15 foot statue of the Seated Buddha. It is one of the darkest halls and the hardest to photograph in because of the lack of light.

In Ellora, if you don't wanna pay, climb

by SirRichard

In Ellora, the only place where you have to pay entrance is Cave 16. If you don’t wanna pay 5$ but have a closer view of the temple, you can climb up the hill by a side path and have a wonderful view from above.

Bibi ka Maqbara

by Paul2001

No it is not the Taj Mahal but the Bibi ka Maqbara! I do not know how many times I said that to people I showed this picture to. It is in fact the poor man's version of the Taj built by the son of the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb in 1679. It was actually designed as a tomb for his mother, Begum Rabia Durrani.
The whole idea here was build a tomb that was very comparable to the Taj. However it is inferior in terms of the artistic quality. Like the Taj Mahal, the tomb is cornered by four minarets and very well groomed gardens, ponds and lawns. The carvings into the white marble cannot compare to the Taj but are good just the same. Since the Bib ka Maqbara is only Mughal tomb of its kind in this part of India, it is well worth visiting if you are in Aurangabad and are not heading up to Agra and the Taj Mahal.

Ellora Cave 16

by SirRichard

This cave CARVED ON PURE ROCK is surely the most impressive and visited in Ellora. This 3 storey building of 8th century seems to be built as any other temple, but in fact is a single rock piece. It has inside halls, shrines, stairs, corridors, all carved in the rock.
It is the first one you will find as you arrive. Entrance: 5 US$
