Mid-range place in Bombay

Hotels in Bombay are about two or three times more expensive than in the rest of India and the quality of the rooms is often very poor.
We took a look at at least 15 different hotels until we found an OK value room.
The Godwin in Colaba is a good mid-range hotel in a quiet neighborhood. Our room had a huge window front with a view on the Taj Hotel and the harbor.The bathroom was quite basic.
Still, it's better to pay 1700 Rs. for a nice room, than 700 Rs. for a dirty dump. The Cloud 9 on the roof (see restaurant tips).

Clean
Bathroom – struggled with hot water (not always available). This has improved a lot.
Service is good.
Reception not very friendly, but rest of staff were great.
Safe – not in working condition – no effort to sort out
TV reception was poor
Aircon = good
Nice terrace with great views on 9th floor
I have stayed here at three occations, the rates are getting very high for a three star hotel The food served at the hotel is very good

there was a place in colaba where I had been some years back it was probably the only place which offered a great view of Mumbai with nice drinks the details are below:-

Great A/C...that's all!

After being fooled by touts messing us around by taking us to dodgy places, we came in here for A/C and ended up staying here for the night. LOL! Typically 3-star hotel with yellowish rooms and basic amenities like TV, hairdryer and private safe. Bed's aren't exactly up to standard in terms of cleanliness but the A/C is good. I think I broke the sofa bed while pulling it out...not intentionally...LOL! Marbel bathroom with a supersmall bathtub. Free breakfast which serves curry for breakfast...fancy that! Free internet station until 10pm at dining hall. I would really recommend this place only if you are dying for A/C. Not exactly value for money.

expensive colaba

Overpriced three star Hotel Godwin looks like it might be okay from the outside, but I found it dirty and the management rude. My 3700rs room was covered in ants and not spotless. The TV didn't work and I had to wait several hours before someone came to sort it out. There were 10 light switches in the room and it was literally a 5 minute ordeal to shut the lights out at night. There's a computer downstairs which you can use for 1/2 an hour free each day. One day I used it for 45 minutes and they charged me 100rs for the extra 15 minutes. considering internet in India usually costs between 15-50 per hour, this is really absurd. It was an okay place to get over my jetlag, but I wouldn't stay there again!
Planned to move to the cheaper Salvation Army, but they told me they had bedbugs!
