My (sentimental) Favorite Choice in Juhu
This smaller, more personalized hotel on the beach is a sentimental favorite of mine. Have stayed there countless times and prefer the atmosphere much more to it's glitzy neighbor down the road, JW Marriott.
The hotel has recently undergone extensive renovation. There are several types of room with the nicest being the sea facing rooms. (Only the sea facing rooms on the 4th floor currently have a bathtub.) All rooms have amenities including minibar, safe, all bathroom amenities, fresh fruit, bottled water, a cookie jar of cookies, newspaper daily. Internet access is available, but costly. The executive rooms have a separate sitting area with a couch and flat screen TV, and a large bathroom with separate tub and shower. The sea view from the executive rooms is only a partial sea view. All rooms have very comfortable beds and room darkening curtains, so you better set your alarm if you have an early appointment!
There is a 24 hour coffee shop, a Kebab hut outside by the pool, a nice bar, a more formal restaurant, and drink and snack service poolside. Also onsite is an excellent hair salon, fitness center overlooking the pool and beach, business center, and spa.
The hotel has changed considerably in 8 years - especially the prices - but I don't think it can be considered a 5 star hotel.
Prices can vary according to season so it's a good idea to keep checking. I just recently found an executive room priced at $150 through Travelocity - which I think is at least half the normal price for that room. Normally the sea facing rooms run $300. The standard rooms are about $250 (I think the only difference with those rooms is the view). All rates include round-trip airport transfers, cocktail hour, and an okay (mostly Indian) buffet breakfast. (Prices updated Jan. '09)
** Update Feb. 2011: Prices have gotten considerably higher and a much better value and nicer hotel is the Novotel (next door).
Unique Quality: The staff are wonderful and enjoying the sunsets over the sea or watching one of the many Indian wedding receptions happening is really beautiful. There's a good chance you'll spot a Bollywood celebrity or two.

exellent hotel at reasonable cost
I stayed here for 3 nights while working in mumbai, the reception is big and exellent done out, with a comfy seating area while waiting to check in or out and coffee is available from porter
there are 4 shops in the hotel which all sell the same things at normal hotel inflated prices
the rooms are fabulous, lovely sized double bed and a full mini bar, bathroom is also exellent and the walk in shower is brilliant and lots of room not like a lot of hotels where you can just about stretch your arms, also comes with nice bottles of soap and shower gel.
internet is also available in rooms at a cost of around 10 uk pounds for 24hrs.
Unique Quality: the pool is a good size even though it is outside it is covered by a roof so if it is raining you can still use it.
the gym is a good sized gym with plenty of facilities
The only disapointment was the resturant dont get me wrong the food is good (i ordered a masala and boy it was hot) but its mainly indian, i asked for steak one night which was on the menu and they had no steak available for 2 nights running and the beer is over priced, a bottle of kingfisher was around 200 rupees (about 2.50) which is exspensive for india
but there are plenty of good resturants nearby which are easy to get to

Hotel
This is a regular stopping point for me in Mumbai. If you have business in, or plan to visit, the city centre then forget it as the journey can take 2-3 hours at bad times. However, I tend to use Mumbai as hub for flying around India and Sun n Sand provides an excellent base for this, being not to far from the airports from where the hotel provides a good pick up and drop off service. The hotel is not the 5 star facility it claims but still a perfectly decent place to stay. Location is fantastic (right on beach) and the outdoor swimming pool is great for lazing around if you have some spare time. There are a number of eating places, all good, but I prefer the 'Kebab Hut' which serves some great stuff. Rooms are well equipped and comfortable and staff generally polite and helpful. The only small problem I have experienced here is during the wedding season when wedding parties can take over the entire hotel but this is true in many Mumbai venues. Having said that, weddings are usually very lavish affairs and interesting to watch from the sidelines.

Superb Management at Juhu Beach, NO ripoff
We (a German couple on holiday and business) spent 3 very enjoyable weeks here. We had zero complaints. Extremely professional management, friendly staff, good food (choice of 3 restaurants, bar, happy hour in the business lounge, etc. “Meru” Taxi (air-conditioned, pre-booked) takes one and a half hours to downtown Mumbai (costs approximately 8 Euro), excellent free airport shuttle to and from hotel 30 to 45 minutes. Location is excellent (right at the ocean/beach), outdoor pool, internet facilities available. Anyone wanting more than Indian 5 Star rating should book into the TAJ Hotel Group.
