Hotel Alpine Continental

Shillong's Better Hotels

As many of my friends know that we made a second visit to Shillong with in a month. This time I stayed at Hotel Alpine Continental. I was given room no 345, which was quite spacious, clean and functioning bathroom. The room had wall to wall carpet, toiletries, hot & cold shower, tea/ coffee maker, clean bed & linen ( changed every day), clean towels etc. The staff were polite and courteous. Food was okay. The room used to be cleaned everyday with adequate supplies of toiletries and tea/ coffee pouches

They also had Wi-Fi internet in the lobby, morning news paper, standby generator ( In Shillong there is Power cuts at least two hours a day), coffee shop, bar. In all it was a good small three star hotel of hill standard. My stay was comfortable.

In comparison to the amenities and the facilities the tariff rate is too high but at the same time there are a few good hotels in town who offer value for money as this is a hill town, the hotel has to run with the locals, who are not very well trained.

Unique Quality: The tariff rate is inclusive of breakfast( which contains,boiled eggs, packed juices, corn flakes, milk, tea, coffee, toasts with jam & butter, Indian Puri Bhaji etc). It was full, but lacked quality of a real star hotel. The staff are also un-courteous here as you may ask for omelet or poached eggs, it may be turned down by their restaurant manager by saying it is not given here! Surely they do not want to take extra pain, but in an expensive Star Hotel??? The management has to take notice of this aspect as the very small incidents can ruin your holiday!
