This is surely the most Majestic hotel of Shillong! Built more than 150 ago by a British businessman, surely hold their pride for nearly 140 years or till the time the new properties came up. This hotel has changed hands and it is currently being run by Meghalaya Tourism Development corporation Ltd. Naturally it has lost it's old charm and lack services but still it emits the aura of the bygone days! This hotel was very sought after during British Raj and till few years ago. Preferred by the wealthy tourist, Royalties, Rich Businessman and the Polo players. Now it requires serious kind of investment and refurbishing. Set amidst a very large area fit to be football ground, the hotel is spread over a few acres and has several bungalow type accommodation. It has toilet of the size of a bed room, a dressing room, a living area and a bed room, complete suit. Naturally it has the highest price tag. These days it is being preferred by very senior govt. officials and businessman.

The day we were there on the 6th March. Mrs. Sonia Gandhi was given the state dinner there!

This hotel requires a fresh paint job, changing of all beds and linens, fresh team of young staff, quick & friendly service and package deals to attract the tourists, then this hotel is surely destined to make profit once again. Handing over this property to a privately managed professional hotel chain can bring back this hotel to their glory days once again!

Unique Quality: The hotel has several bungalow type blocks, several type of accommodation, very large garden, gymnasium, bar, several restaurants, playing area, Presidential cottage, deluxe and super deluxe room and all.

If you are ready to make some compromise with the bed qualities, late service and can afford their prices this is the place you have been looking for to relax and laze around. This is not a touristy hotel but a place to laze and enjoy the nature. You are sure to wake up with chirping of birds! In this place you should get a feeling that you are also a Royalty.

There is a 20% luxury tax levied on the room.
