Hotel Beach View: New place

I came to Puri a week before Christmas and my first choice, the Z Hotel, was full. Other hotels were also full or a bit out of my price range. I found this hotel just across the road from the Z Hotel and it looked nice, new and clean from the outside so I decided to take a look. Luckily they had rooms available but the first one they took me to had a squat toilet. Then the manager came along and said he had a better room on the second floor which had a western toliet. The room was pretty basic with a TV and recently painted a lovely pink and lime green and had a small balcony but no windows. The only view of the beach is at the front from the stair-well. This is a new place and so everything is fresh and pretty clean still. My room was Rs250 and check-out, for some silly reason, is 8am. Hot water comes via bucket and sometimes you have to use a heating element and heat up cold water yourself!

B.N.R.Heritage Hotel.: Puri's Better Hotels.

Unique Quality: B.N.R.Heritage hotel as the name suggest is a Heritage hotel. It was built in the 30's by the then Bengal Nagpur Railway ( Now South Eastern Railways) to cater their elite clientle. It offers variety of food, and very good service. The rooms are very big compared to the modern hotels. Some of the bathrooms are even bigger than the main bedroom of many good hotels. Those who are looking for a stay in Royal style can venture here. But since the Royalty of India are gone, I am not sure you will be treated like a Royalty. At one time it used to cater only to very well to do Indians, Royalties and the British very senior officers and high end Europeans.

KONARAK YATRI NIWAS.: Konarak's Best Accomodation.

Largely the best accommodation available at Konark itself orissa state tourism development corporation's yatri niwas and travelers lodge. It is clean, safe and moderately priced. Staffs are friendly but since it is run by the state govt., you should not expect the service level to that of star hotels. Food is okay and they serve mostly Indian dishes. For one or two night, it is the best bargain as it is just next to the sun temple. People staying here are always treated better with extras such as guide facility, escort on request and hotel staffs are trustworthy. You can always complain to their H.O.

Unique Quality: It has a garden of their own and has several travelers’ cottages. Here they supply filtered water even safe for a European. They have a lobby that can be used by the guest. Have air condition and non-air condition rooms. Also, have deluxe rooms.

The otdc tourist office is located inside the lodge.
