After checking more than a dozen hotels in-person, and even more through other ways, we settled on this one. It is efficient, clean, quiet, comfortable, airy, basically everything good. A little pricey (Rs2,250 for 3 people in June) but Vishal offers more than other hotels that charge even more, or are in very tiny alleys.
Try to get the road facing room for better morning sun and bit of a view of the sea. Cross CT Road and you will be the next to the cleaner part of Puri's beaches. The hotels near Golden Sand beach (and the beach itself) are way too crowded and bit lowbrow.
Would definitely recommend.
If you need a suite with kitchen and lobby, try Sagar Tarang Residency (6752-225999/227000). Not too far from Vishal Plaza, they charge about Rs2,000 per night, but it felt musty.
Even though this beach is cleaner and less crowded than the other prime beach, I would think twice before frolicking in the waves. There are little canals right in the sands that perpetually discharge all the hotels' refuse water. That's why even the "exclusive" beach stinks at night. And the local fishermen-women go at it in the morning...
I had booked into this hotel for 5 nights, towards the end of Jan-2013. We had booked a room for three people. The good part - the extra bed was provided at no extra cost. Booking went smoothly and direct electronic transfer to their account and e-mail confirmation of the same went well.
Issue was with the services provided by the hotel. Their restaurant was, well pathetic. 90% of the items mentioned in the menu was not available. And God help you if they are hosting any office party or convention. They will simply not attend to you. Further, items you will be offered will be those made for the party (I presume) since all other items were off the list. The waiters are rather laid back and will attend to you only in their own sweet time.
The room service is equally bad. They are inattentive while taking orders and simply deny that you had ever ordered something. The waiter serving in the room does not bother to clear the trays even after 24 hrs.
Housekeeping service is something else altogether. Extremely sloppy and they will not take away dirty cutlery and provide fresh ones. Carafe is only filled with water on request. Room remains uncleaned even after 24 hrs.
Good rooms. Check-in was simple. Booking was fairly smooth.
Very close to the sea and the fishing village this is one of the view nice hippie time leftovers (with Z -Hotel Green Garden Restaunt and Peace Restaurant), rooms from 300 Rupies (shared bathroom) to 900 Rupies (with AC), there is also a quite nice Restaurant
Very good value, small cottages from 200 Rupies with attatched bathroom
Has a small garden and a restaurant
I came to Puri a week before Christmas and my first choice, the Z Hotel, was full. Other hotels were also full or a bit out of my price range. I found this hotel just across the road from the Z Hotel and it looked nice, new and clean from the outside so I decided to take a look. Luckily they had rooms available but the first one they took me to had a squat toilet. Then the manager came along and said he had a better room on the second floor which had a western toliet. The room was pretty basic with a TV and recently painted a lovely pink and lime green and had a small balcony but no windows. The only view of the beach is at the front from the stair-well. This is a new place and so everything is fresh and pretty clean still. My room was Rs250 and check-out, for some silly reason, is 8am. Hot water comes via bucket and sometimes you have to use a heating element and heat up cold water yourself!
Like Mayfair hotel this new hotel has come up in crowded area of Swagadwar on Marine drive of Puri Sea Beach. This is also a modern hotel offering a very comfortable stay to a traveler, who wants to gaze the Beachand the Sea all the day. It also offers variety of European, Chinese and Indian food. You can expect all here like all good hotels has to offer.
B.N.R.Heritage hotel as the name suggest is a Heritage hotel. It was built in the 30's by the then Bengal Nagpur Railway ( Now South Eastern Railways) to cater their elite clientle. It offers variety of food, and very good service. The rooms are very big compared to the modern hotels. Some of the bathrooms are even bigger than the main bedroom of many good hotels. Those who are looking for a stay in Royal style can venture here. But since the Royalty of India are gone, I am not sure you will be treated like a Royalty. At one time it used to cater only to very well to do Indians, Royalties and the British very senior officers and high end Europeans.
This hotel is run and owned by the famous Mayfair group of Bhubaneshwar. They also have their flagship hotel at Bhubaneshwar. This hotel offers very satisfying stay even to the snob traveller. This is considered a Three/ Four star category hotel. It offers variety of Continental, Chinese, Thai and Indian dishes. Service is friendly and excellent. They will make sure , your stay is comfortable there. You can even hire an Air Conditioned vehicle to go around to Konark, Udaygiri caves and Bhubaneshwar.
I shall add up a photo later, when I have it.
The Town of Puri has now more than 400 hotels, Guest houses, Holiday homes even private houses accomodate guests during Rathajatra Festival and during Christmas rush. Tourist mainly consist of about 85% people from Calcutta, who still find Puri to be enchanting enough to visit again and again. It's sea is Blue and alluring.
The town of Puri has even some star hotels now. Prices ranging from 50-100USD per day for stay. Since I did not stay for long I could not collect info. But I promise to collect some names soon. The govt run OTDC has two panthaniwas on the beach itself. Both are clean and offer value for money. Has ample parking space.
Panthaniwas is situated on the Beach itself. Has ample parking space Staffs are friendly and the food is good. You will get mostly Indian dishes but they can also prepare European dishes on request. But my suggestion, please do not venture for European food here. They make excellent Indian dishes.
Largely the best accommodation available at Konark itself orissa state tourism development corporation's yatri niwas and travelers lodge. It is clean, safe and moderately priced. Staffs are friendly but since it is run by the state govt., you should not expect the service level to that of star hotels. Food is okay and they serve mostly Indian dishes. For one or two night, it is the best bargain as it is just next to the sun temple. People staying here are always treated better with extras such as guide facility, escort on request and hotel staffs are trustworthy. You can always complain to their H.O.
It has a garden of their own and has several travelers’ cottages. Here they supply filtered water even safe for a European. They have a lobby that can be used by the guest. Have air condition and non-air condition rooms. Also, have deluxe rooms.
The otdc tourist office is located inside the lodge.
