Our hotel was part of the car/driver we arranged in Delhi. However, we walked around and found several inexpensive hotels near the Golden Temple which had available rooms, like the Hotel Golden Tower. You can also bargain for a better price.

However, the rooms were not in the best condition.

The hotel we stayed at was not as close to the tourist sites. This was like most of the hotels that were prearranged. This was a little inconvenient, especially when we let the driver go because he had a long drive the next day or we just wanted to spend time walking around.

We did not like our room the first night so the manager said he would change it. He said something like we got back late the second night when we were changing rooms. I told him his hotel is too far away just to come back to change rooms.

We often found the size and type of room we got depended on how late we arrive. This is because they gave the better rooms to walk-ins. The most extreem example of this was our hotel in Udaipur. The first night our room was like a hole in the wall, the second night it was a grand suiet over looking the lake and palace. We were only asked for our voucher, we were never asked to pay more for a better room or offered a refund for a crummy room.
