RE: Guest House needed

I'm afraid but there are NO luxury guesthouses in Amritsar (4 or 5 star as required by you). Instead you can try the Ranjit's Svaasa (www.svaasa.com) - its a heritage property managed by ITC Welcome Group. If you are looking for hotels, try MK Hotel or Ritz Plaza - but these are usually packed with Airline Staff....

Travel Tips for Amritsar

Heatness

by l_joo

Heatness is our bus was a good experience, I uploaded another picture to show tourists how we sweat that long night without sleep well. It was not just heatness, somehow the bus driver's way of driving was too crazy. He can put his hand on the honk to do it every 3 to 10 minutes. The voice of their honk was not normal, they actually modified it to sound like some latest digital audio effect of wave sound, and we can hear it all the night. So it was sweat and weird honks that cultural shocked me.

Earplugs

Forget your wife, your husband, your girlfriend, your boyfriend, your mother, your father, your sister, your brother or any other travelling companion. These little things will be your best friend throughout your whole time in India. Look after them, nurture them, feed them , water them and by all means don't lose them!

Jallianwalla Bagh

by 8Bloem

In 1919, this small park was the stage of one of the worst atrocities in British-Indian history. After Sikh leaders held a peaceful protest against British rule, 2000 Sikhs were shot by British soldiers. Many of them did not survive, as the British would not let anyone go near for another day.

It is a peaceful park, though, with a small museum on the killing, and a monument commemorating the dead.

Amrit Sarovar/Pool of Nectar

by RAJASTHANBYCAR

All Sikh people try to make a visit to the temple and take bath in the holy tank of the temple. The devotees believe that a bath in the tank will cleanse the soul.
The pool is about 800 by 800 feet and is known to the faithful as the Pool of Nectar. The holy tank that surrounds Golden Temple was built by the 5th Guru Arjan Dev.

Golden Temple - At night

by Willettsworld

I arrived in Amritsar at about 5pm from McLeod Ganj after taking two buses. My first view of the Golden Temple was from my hotel roof and that night I went inside the complex and took these photo's. The Golden Temple itself is lit up at night and the gold reflects into the pool. For some reason the whole complex was packed with people wrapped in blankets lying on the floor around the main pool so they were set to sleep there overnight.
