Travel Tips for Amritsar

Helping with the Langar (Free Lunch)

by MikeySoft

You are under no obligation to help with the Langar (Free Lunch) but if you want, you can help with the washing or preparation of food. It is a good way to have some fun and meet the people.

I also walked through the food preparation area and all the people were smiling very friendly to me. I took some photos and few give me there their address. They indicated I could send all the photos of their group because they knew each other.

Please rate this tip and my others if you find them interesting, useful, or like the photos. Thanks

Golden Temple - cover your head

by rahulr911

Golden Temple - Don't forget to cover your head with hankerchief or small cloth and carry tower if you want to take dip in holy pond surrounded by temple. AHh.. also try free Langar (Supper) offered to all visitors for free :)

Narrow streets near Golden Temple

by oisha

Amritsar was the place in India I least expected to get my bum pinched, but, well, it happened right here folks - within coo-ee of the Golden Temple. The streets are really very narrow - even cycle rickshaws have trouble getting through. Don't forget to look up for the best vistas, even though you may be leaving your bottom in jeopardy!

Guru ka Langar/Free Kitchan

Everyone is welcome to share the Guru ka Langar, no one is turned away. The food is normally served twice a day, every day of the year.Simple, High Quality Food served Free for all people and all meals are vegetarian.
It is here that all people high or low, rich or poor, male or female, all sit in the same pangat (literally "row" or "line") to share and enjoy the food together.

Donkey cart

by l_joo

One unavoidable must see activities has to be this one, donkey cart. In Amritsar, I saw many peoples with a donkey or a horse as their transport. For this one, obviously the donkey is already beyond its limit, so we put it under must see.
