Flights to Srinagar

by licinio1

I haven't been able to see if there are flights from Amritsar to Srinagar and what company operates them. I have seen flights from Jammu, but ideally I'd like to leave from Amritsar to save myself a night train ride... Thanks.

Re: Flights to Srinagar

Hi,

There are no flights from Amritsar to Srinagar. One option is to catch an early morning bus to Jammu (takes a bit more than 4 hours in morning) and then take an afternoon or evening flight to Srinagar.

Hope this helps.

Thanks! I've seen there is a Spice Jet flight to Srinagar from Jammu around 9.30 am, and I could take the 23.25 train from Amritsar that gets to Jammu at 4 in the morning. Do you think the bus would be more convenient from A. to J.?

Hi,

The train from Amritsar to Jammu is NOT very reliable and it is commonly delayed by 8-10 hrs. Its safe to have a gap of atleast 10 hrs or the best option is to go by bus.

The generality of Amritsar

Generality is a way of seeing using our sight organs to capture the generality in the generality itself to bring out the...the true generalitivity. The picture we have here is the generality of Amritsar.

...and the Interior structure

by l_joo

You must look at this, the interior structure and atmosphere of the Golden Temple. This photo shows the first floor and 2 more to go. I am just a tourist, therefore please do not expect me to provide detail information of what and why or how and who, just enjoy photo. There are so many websites about Sikhism, ask Google.com

Golden Temple

by RAJASTHANBYCAR

Harmandir Sahib, also know as the Golden Temple in Amritsar City is the holiest shrine of the Sikh religion. Also known as the Shri Darbar Shaib, it is in the center of the old part of Amritsar. The Golden Temple sits on a rectangular platform, surrounded by a pool of water called the Amrit Sarovar from which the City is named. The entrance to the Golden Temple complex is through an ornate archway with intricate inlay work.

During Maharaja Ranjit Singh's Tiger of Punjab reign the lower half of the temple was decorated with marble while the entire upper half was inlaid with copper and gold plated. Its four gates symbolically invite everyone from all directions. Built in a blend of Hindu and Muslim styles, the Golden Temple is a two story marble structure and the interior of the temple is decorated with semi precious stones, frescoes and glass work.

Golden Temple - Ramgarhia watch towers

by Willettsworld

Two watch towers near the dining hall overlook the whole Golden Temple complex. They were built in the 18th century in Islamic style and named after a Punjabi tribe. Until 1984, they had a flat roof on top but following the Indian Army's "Blue Star" raid in 1984, they were reconstructed with a spiral apex.

Golden Temple - Causeway

by Willettsworld

I stood in the long queue along the causeway in order to enter inside the Golden Temple. The causeway is 60m (197ft) long, made out of marble and is flanked by nine gilded lamps on each side. I waited for about 30 minutes and the closer you get to the temple, the more beautiful it looks. People around me were singing along to the recited verses from the Sikh's holy book. It's partly a series of tunes and partly a series of spoken verses that's broadcast around the complex and surrounding area during the day. When it finishes, they start all over again.
