Maya Hotel - Jalhandar: Eastern Hospitality - Western Standards

We based ourselves at the Maya for three weeks last March and I am ashamed that I have not made this recommendation before now as we could not have been better cared for.
The Hotel is in a good location and is issued with 3 stars - I would give it 3plus or 4, but the powers that be seem to give stars for swimming pools but not for good service.
The rooms are very comfortable and have all the standards we cossetted westerners require. Most importantly, they get cleanliness and hygiene just right.
The best bit for me was the restaurant. This is the first trip I have made to India (we are regulars as my husband is Indian) where I have come back home with a healthy stomach.
The food was all buffet style and I do not know how the chef managed to keep producing fresh food (indian, chinese and european) without it looking miserable after a while but it truly was very fresh and tasty. (Oh dear - the colonial heritage of sponge puddings came back to haunt our waistlines - they were gorgeous).

Unique Quality: Superb food and magical views across Jalandhar from the upper floors.
