Ajmer

by FridgeMagnet

Hi,

I am thinking of taking the 22.20 train from Udaipur to Ajmer. It arrives in Ajmer at 03.45 in the morning. Obviously I will then have to make my way to my hotel. Thinking of walking since it is only a 10 minute walk. Would it be safe to walk in central Ajmer at this time. Alternatively what sort of transport would be available from the train station?

Thanks,
John

Be safe and travel through the day even if it means taking local bus and is a little longer.

I find most hotels will close up after midnight and walking around in the very early hours of the morning is dangerous with dodgy people and barking dogs which they will bite & are very agressive.

I would avoid getting off at your destination at this time of morning. I have myself done many trips all over India and their is nothing worse than getting off a train in the early hours and being greeted by a pack of dogs in empty streets.

good luck

That's very good advice eartflyer. Thanks.

A dog did attack me when I was in Moscow earlier this year. Luckily it calmed down when I just stood and confronted him. Certainly don't want to experience it again though.

I will find an alternative means of getting there. Hate wasting the day time travelling though because I am only in India for a very limited time. Maybe there is an evening bus.

Best option would be to take an auto upto the hotel. Second one would be stay at the railway station till around 5.30 AM and then start walking or taking an auto.

Avoid walking at middle of night even if you are a lone male member

Thanks ghajela.

I have decided to go straight through to Jaipur on the train and go back to Ajmer on a day trip.

Dault Bagh & Subash Bagh

Emperor Jehangir laid the beautiful Daulat Bagh Gardens that are located on the banks of the Ana Sagar (large lake that lies to the north-west of the city). As everywhere in India, where there's a nice bit of grass, you'll find many people taking advantage of it by kicking back and relaxing on it.
