This is the first genuine five star hotel of Jaipur still maintaining their old charm but their main business now depends on Corporate clientele as there are now many good hotels in Jaipur for the tourists. TBD

Although this is said to be Rajastan's first five star hotel, I wasn't overly impressed by it. It may very well have changed since we stayed in 1988 though.
There was a nice pool, but I remember the lifts being very slow indeed, and we waited for ages to get down to dinner.
Unique Quality: A multi-storey building surrounded by beautiful gardens creating a very peaceful atmosphere. The hotel has 202 luxurious rooms, a magnificent lobby and large dining hall.
Doctor on Call, Laundry, Money Changer, Safe Deposit, Baby Sitting, Valet, Travel Desk Service, Indoor swimming pool, fitness centre, beauty parlour, travel desk, shopping arcade, Laundry service and 24-hour room service.
Food and beverage includes a roof-top multi-cuisine restaurant, coffee shop, dining hall with buffet service, and barbecue dinners round the pool with puppet shows.
Live Rajasthani Folk Dance show, a bank, postal services, and a shopping arcade with a bookstore are among other service available.
In the lobby of the Clarks Amer Hotel was a beautiful stuffed tiger, and every time I walked past this magnificent animal, I dreamt that one day I would see one in real life in the wild.
Little did I know that some 17 years later, I would return to India and Rajastan and visit Ranthambore National Park and actually do see a regal tigress in her natural surroundings.
In the Jharokha Restaurant in the hotel, Indian Musicians were playing. Although I am not generally a great lover of Indian music (sorry!), I still felt it added a very nice atmosphere to the evening. They were not so loud that you could not hear yourself talk, which in my book is always a plus point.
Though Night life at Jaipur is not to the tune of Delhi & Mumbai but Jaipur does offers fair bit of fun. There are some very good clubs now which offers quality entertainment. Geoffery's at Park Plaza is quite a famous place which plays some great music. Tablu at Clarks Amer is a roof top bar quite close to Airport. You can see a lot of international flights flying by at a height. It is also good for having quite drink with not much of a rush. Devil's club at Las Vegas is also a happening place. Good for people who loves to dance till late night. Angaara at Malviya Nagar is also a dance club where lot of young BPO employees can be seen enjoying.
Also you can visit Nahargarh fort at night to see the panaromic view of Jaipur city at night. Its very peaceful and pleasant at the top. Smart casuals. Stags not allowed on week ends

Any info would be appreciated as it looks a bit far out and would like to know whether its worth trying to find a nicer / more central hotel ??

clark's amer is a very nice 5 star hotel ... little bit outside of town...check out the LMB (johari bazar - pinky city, near sanganeri gate)...there u 'll be close to all sights u want to see...plus, many shops r there ... u can find on net many others....
