Travel Tips for Jaipur
Kite Festival
by indiabazaar
Kite Festival (held on 14th Jan of every year): A festival with a difference - as kites take to the sky all over Rajasthan. In the evening, kites with lights in them and fireworks brighten the skies above. The main celebrations are in Jaipur and Jodhpur. If you like kite flying, you should be here.
Shopping in India
by Luchonda about Somewhere
You can buy some beautiful handicrafts in India . My personal taste were carpets and wood.
Look at this statue - made out of wood and functioning as jewelary case.
Many small places to hide your treasures ! Quit a lot - but credit cards are excepted
City Palace
by mallyak
Jaipur city is known for its many palaces and forts, which are a major attraction for tourists to Rajasthan. One of these major landmarks of the 'pink city' is the City Palace Complex.
The City Palace was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II of the Kachhwaha clan of Rajputs, but a lot of changes and additions were made to the original structure by his successors.
The architecture of the City Palace is a synthesis of Rajasthani and Mughal styles. The Complex comprises of many structures, courtyards, gardens and buildings. There are many splendid small palaces and halls in the complex, such as the Chandra Mahal, Mubarak Mahal and Badal Mahal. There is also a famous temple called the Shri Govind Temple and a museum inside, named the City Palace Museum.
The Palace of the Winds
by Scarlie
Maybe the second (after the Taj) most famous - and beautiful - facade in India, the Hawa Mahal plays with the senses. Surprisingly, there is very little behind the facade, but there I found the place where my spirit could truly rest. Haunted by the winds, there is something very romantic, as well as tragic, in the air. No wonder, it was made for women.
Pink and pretty City Palace
by abi_maha
We still had the entire city center to see, so we predictably headed to the city palace- with its myriad chambers of armor, textiles, wagons etc it proved to be a worthwhile trip! Built by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh it is a beautiful blend of Rajasthani and Mughal Architecture. A part of this is the residence of the former Maharaja.
Showcasing the world's largest silver vessels, an art gallery, a museum it is a must do. There are loads of things to buy outside the palace and a very pleasant restaurant inside :)
