Travel Tips for Jaipur

Carpet Workshop # 2

by grets

While watching the weaving process, we were encouraged to try our hand at the loom - for a remunreation of course.

Here David is learning the finer details of carpet weaving, and from the look on his face I don't think he is finding it too easy.

Chandpol & Tripolia Bazaars

by Willettsworld about Shops

The shops that run along the length of Chanpol and Tripolia Bazaars in the Old City are an attraction in their own right. I walked along these bazaars from Chandpol Gate in the west and passed by shops selling absolutely everything from tiles to paint, stationary to textiles, coffee, spices and nuts. I even saw a few selling old sewing machines! If you cut through behind the shops like you have to do so if you want to climb up the Iswari Minar Swarga Sal, you'll find many repair and wholesalers selling hardware for the building trade.

Visit the Forts & Palaces

by ghajela

Once at this town go to the mountains and Visit the Jaigarh Fort and have a look at the world's biggest Canon. Amber Fort next to it is also must see as this is where the main activities used to happen. There is a famous Devi temple where even today the Maharaja worships. Nahargarh Fort is also right next to Amer at the top. The city view from the here is simply amazing at night. Hawa Mahal at Badi Chaupar is also a beautiful building giving Jaipur its own existance. Visit City Palace, the original Palace of Maharaja which is now converted into a Museum.

Jal Mahal on the way to Amber is also a good Photo opportunity. Kanak Vrinidavan a Krishna Temple along with a garden is can also be visited.

A newly developed Biological Park at JLN Road is a beautiful piece of greenary. visit it in the morning or evening and you can also have bird watching here.

GO KITE-CHASING :)

by Siddha3th

A beautiful, surreal spectacle awaits you on Jaipur's myriad streets. You're likely to see hundreds of colourful kites renting the sky, zig-zagging across the big blue canvas. Following the kite strings down to their owners, you'll see loads of excitable boys and girls on the rooftops of their houses, revelling in the freedom of their endless playground.

The scene is charming enough to begin with - old, rose pink, Islamic style houses with open rooftops and corridors. And then you've got these little devils enacting their own star wars episodes from street to street! Life's just one big adventure :)

Amazing Amber Fort

by PeteG

The Amber Fort is just outside of Jaipur high up on a hillside and was built originally in the 16th century.

Within the walls are magnificant entrance gates, gardens, fantastically decorated walls, and amazing carvings. This is such a stunning place, you could spend a whole day there and not got bored. The views of the surrounding area are worth the climb up the step hill.

You have 3 options on methods of travel. 1, walk up. It takes about 15 minutes but the path is step. 2, jeep some of the way then walk, or 3, take an Elephant taxi! These are extremely popular but sometimes the queue for one will be more than an hour long. The elephants are very well looked after and only do a specified number of trips before returning to the elephant stables for a well earned rest.

More photos of the lovely inside of the fort are on my Amber Fort page!
