Elephant Ride at Amber Fort

by keeweechic

You can take a slow elephant ride to climb the hill up to Amber Fort. The elephants will take up to 3-4 passengers. These elephants don’t appear to be abused in fact they look like they are well taken care of. Part of the cost in your ticket goes to the elephant owner, part to the elephant welfare fund, a some to the archaeological department and for cleanliness.

Hawa Mahal

by grets

The Hawa Mahal is also known as the Palace of the Winds. It was originally built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap to enable ladies of the royal household to watch the everyday life and processions of the city without being seen themselves.

Mubarak Mahal

by MalenaN

If you enter the City Palace through the main entrance, Virendra Pol, you will come to a large courtyard with a beautiful two-story building in the middle. The building is Mubarak Mahal - the Welcome Palace. It was built by the Mahraja Madho Singh II in 1890 and was used for receiving guests. Now it houses the Textile and Costume Museum, which have a fine collection of royal costumes and of fabrics from all over India. There are shawls, silk saris, wedding outfits and embroidered coats and more. An interesting coat is the one of Maharaja Madho Singh, who was a very big man: 2m tall, 1.2m wide and weighing 250kg. Interesting to know is also that he had 108 wives. In the museum there are also music instrument and toys of the royal children.

Amber fort - part 1

by stephenshephard

Not far from Jaipur is the Rajput fort of Amber, originally built in the 16th century. Before visiting the fort itself, stop to take in the view from a distance, with the fort reflected in the lake below.
