For a romantic & decadent trip

The intro is a bit touristy (marigold petals, red carpet, camels, a band, etc), but this was the most romantic place I have ever stayed. We lucked out and had the top floor suite, which was bigger than our apartment back home with a balcony that looked up to the old fort. The traditional Rajestani musicians serenaded us with Nimbooda, one of the few Bollywood tunes we knew by heart and each night there were fireworks (outside that is...)

My only problem with the experience was guilt, because the village outside the hotel has no electric & spotty running water, so it made the economic disparities present as a tourist in India that much more acute

Unique Quality: View of a fort, fireworks, being treated like a Raj & Raja

Hand-printed sheets and embroidered

by j-san

Near the Samode Palace, a boy from the Palace's art shop, took me to a seller of sheets in the nearby Samode village. There I was able to buy beautiful cotton and silk hand-printed sheets, as well as a lavish looking deep deep blue bed cover with gold embroidery - it literally shimmers in the lamp light. It was also about half the price of the Jaipur emporiums. For al these sheets and bed covers as well as craftwork, I paid about 50dollars US.

Samode Hotel

This was the first time that we lost ourselves inside the hotel, with the feelings of being in a featured monument. All the space is absolutely fantastic, and, if it is open only for the guests, it's a good reason to stay at least one night there.

The word palace depicts romance, luxury, opulence, treachery, plot and connivance. But the important ones that of nostalgia, for an era gone by never to return again. Be like the kings and queens stay in their palaces and enjoy.

Palaces are the examples of a country's cultural heritage and custodians of its history. India is maybe the only country in the world where palaces of almost every gone by era can be found, be it the Old Stone age or the colonial one.
