Silk Painting Workshop
Next on the itinerary was a silk painting workshop that also sold jewellery, antiques etc. We were offered a handful of precious stones on the black market for 200Rp (ca $15) by the resident gem-cutter. We declined.

M.I. (Mirza Ismail) Road, is Jaipur's central shopping avenue. There's everything here - boutiques, furnishing stores, bookstores, banks, the whole lot. There are also a couple of decent restaurants and pubs around.
In the mornings, every hour's like rush hour on this stretch. It gets packed as hell with traffic and shoppers. So you better pace yourself on M.I. Road. But many of the shops are in these grand, old, white buildings - quite a pretty sight.
The palace was originally built by the great warrior scientist Maharaja Jai Singh who was also the founder of the city. Taking power at age 11, Jai Singh got the best education in art, science, philosophy, and war. He built Jaipur and the City Complex in 1727 which was a precise and symmetrical new city. The City Palace Complex is in the center of the city and includes the palace itself, administration quarters, the observatory, and the women?s palaces. The Maharaja had 28 wives and a few concubines for political and military alliances, more than any predecessor. The palace has many courtyards, buildings, and gardens.
Without doubt the most frequently seen image of Jaipur is the Hawa Mahal,or "Palace of the winds".It beautiful pink decorated facade,is exactly all it is!!It is 5 storeys high and 1 room thick.Built for ladies of the harem to watch without being watched. You can climb to the top but of course will not get the best from the building.Instead go into the school opposite (we did with the help of a nearby stall seller, who then of course expected us to buy something)where you will get the best full on view.
Jaipur's streets are like a big Broadway theatre - of dreams, hopes, trinkets, clothes, and what have you. You're likely to come across some pretty amazing stuff in the millions of gullies and little side-roads that dot the city.
Just outside the front gate to the City Palace, I stumbled across these guys on the left - a troupe of about ten gypsy sellers, peddling their amazing-looking ornate oil lanterns.
Also, whatever else you do, don't forget to sample the road gourmet - samosas, wadas, peanuts - there's enough in here to keep a foodie from getting to the palaces and forts!
