Good place to stay in Jaisalmer
I was there in Feb.2014 with my friends for two nights. it is a good place to stay in Jaisalmer. Extremely good hospitality of the owner. Rooms are neat and clean and highly peaceful atmosphere It is a small hotel with very homely feeling and probably this is the reason the owner was able to provide personal attention to each and every guest.lovely food and I could see beautiful view of fort from rooftop restaurant.
Unique Quality: you could see great view of Jaisalmer from roof of hotel.
Chilled out very social place - Shahi Palalce
Great fort views from a resturant on the roof. Good food ... reasonable. Lots of travelers, very social. Run by brothers. Easy going guys, no hassel just helpful. Stayed in beautiful room with a fort view 1250, but there are cheaper ones. India is know for hard beds, but these are good. The only problem is everybody knows they are the best place to stay and it fills up. Book in advance or arrive early. They have a website. www.shahipalacehotel.com
Unique Quality: View to die for! Meet other travelers.

More about Hotel Shahi Palace
Fabulous, friendly place!
The Shahi Palace Hotel is the only place to stay in Jaisalmer!
The rooms are gorgeous, it has a rerrific rooftop restaurant overlooking the fort and the brothers who run the hotel can't do enough for their guests. We had a great time there - couldn't be bettered and best of all, you won't add to the crumbling fort infrastructure. I can't wait to go back.
A Unique Experience!
The Shahi Palace is by far and away the best and smartest place to stay in Jaisalmer. They were the first property to move outside the fort, which takes on serious stress with all the millions of guesthouses scattered within its walls. The rooms are tastefully done and have a unique feeling to them. If possible and if willing to pay some more money, try to get a room in their other guest house which is only five doors down. This place is MUCH quieter, nicer and has rooms you will never forget! If you have time during your trip, be sure to book a camel safari. That is an experience you will NEVER forget!
Chilled Atmosphere, Warm People
My wife and I loved staying at Shahi Palace. The staff were friendly and quick to make us feel at home. They were super efficient and helpful with all our needs including travel plans and our camel safari, which was a terrific adventure. They even helped us with some awesome Hindi ringtones! The views of the fort are unparalleled, and we lazed away the afternoons on the comfortable day-beds in the rooftop restaurant. Also, the food is delicious - try the Club Sandwich! A relaxed atmosphere prevails over this fantastic establishment. We will definitely be back!
very good wee haveli - just don't use their safari
i'll keep this short. hotel shahi palace was a great wee place, with decent rooms and a decent cafe upstairs. they were helpful with us generally.
one thing however is when we enquired about desert safari they woffered us a 2 day one overnight sleep safari for 1700 Rs. when we went into town the standard price with independent safari companies was about 900 Rs for the same package, so a bit of a rip off!! for the record we went with sahari travels (with 'Mr Desert' himself!) 2 day package for 900 Rs and it was great.
also we were out one night for a meal and when we got back at ~11.30pm the doors were locked and no one was answering! we ended up waking up other guests by banging the doors and then they let us in. so that was a bit weird.
otherwise this place was grand.
A Warm Friendly Welcome
Our family of 6 people stayed here for two nights and would have loved to stay for more. We arrived exhausted from the other side of India and were picked up with the minimum of fuss at the train station and brought here where we were warmly welcomed and told to treat the hotel as our home. The rooms are clean and full of character with beds that actually have some give in them. Wonderful after sleeping on wafer thin matresses previously. The rooftop restaurant makes good meals and the views are spectacular of the fort. We went out on a safari trip into the desert away from the normal tourist hordes at The Sam and the meal we had under the stars was beyond expectations in more ways than one. It was my husbands birthday and they provided a cake and our very own firework spectacular. Amazing! We met a lot of overseas visitors here from Australia, England, Europe and America and we all enjoyed swapping yarns of our Incredible Indai Experience around the fire on the rooftop. This isn't the cheapest hotel in Jaiselmer, but it's worth every cent. Thank you Dev and Papu for making our stay so enjoyable.
The Drinkwater Family
Basic but good value
I agree with the mixed reviews about this hotel. As with many places in India, they try and extract as much money from you as possible. You won't find many places that won't on your travels there. So, knowing that, we haggled down the camel trip, which was very special, as they take you to some secluded dunes. Overall, the good value for money, but don't hesitate to complain if you want to change your room or something is not right - they'll fix it straight away. As with many mid-range hotels in india the availability of hot water was variable. The rooftop terrace is probably the primary attraction of the hotel - a great place to relax with a view of the old town. We spent a day on the dunes on the hotel-organised camel safari and loved it - probably the higlight of the trip. The camel guys were entertaining and made every effort to make the trip as fun as possible.
This was the most welcoming and enjoyable hotel of our trip – and in the most fascinating place we visited in Rajasthan. The meeting place is the rooftop restaurant with its bed-like stone sofas, excellent food, Kingfisher beer and stunning views of the fort as the sun goes down. Papu is the host with the most and the Nepalese staff are brilliant. Robert & Tania Auckland NZ
Relaxing Roof Terrace
We were only meant to stay 1 night...................5 days later we finally left and wished we hadnt!!
Jara, Dev and the brothers had a great welcome, collecting us from the station(thank God) so no stress there. We then sat up on the beautiful roof terrace, chilling out to the music whilst sipping a nice cold fresh lemon soda(an addiction in India)
Our room was great, lovely decor, very clean, comfy bed, working tv. Good value for money. All the staff were very cheery, cleaners/waiters all excellent.
After looking at photos and chatting about the camel safari we booked a 1 night trip through the hotel. At no time did they put us under any pressure to book through them, but we were just SO relaxed we just couldnt be bothered to look anywhere else and the brothers are just not in the game of ripping anyone off.
Great camel safari, lovely guides, a bit sore on the old bum muscles but other than a fab experience.
So, altogether, highly reccomended, you wont be disappointed, although it sets a high standard for all the hotels you will be staying in, in India. So, you may be disappointed when you move on and stay elsewhere!!!
I can only add my voice to the other glowing reports on here and say that this place is outstanding, in terms of both quality and value, and deserves to be restored to its #1 ranking. How can anyone call 900Rs for an immaculate room in a tourist hotspot like Jaisalmer
‘overpriced’? Westerners who can afford a flight to India and then complain about spending what amounts to just a few £/$/€s make my blood boil.
Like many other reviewers have already said, the brothers (and various cousins!) are just great hosts, the rooms cool, comfortable and even stylish in a simple kind of way, the view from and relaxed ambience of the rooftop terrace stunning (once you’re up there it’s hard to leave) and the overnight camel safari on which you won’t see a single other tourist (but a million stars) a guaranteed highlight of any visit to Rajasthan. Like the hotel, the safari may not be the cheapest but it’s a drop in the ocean by Western prices, and what you get in terms of quality makes them both worth every rupee.
Thanks guys for a truly memorable stay.
Accommodation in Jaisalmer
I'm planning a trip to Jaisalmer during 28-30 December, 2007. Can any one recommend me a good place, mid-range with heritage style, to stay. I already booked for Shahi Palace Hotel. But they are fully booked during that period.
Re: Accommodation in Jaisalmer
Try Nachana Haveli. Should be in line with what you are expecting.
You may read my review of the place on VT, and decide.
