Living in a Palace (for a short while!)

Pleasant, large rooms.......and very atmospheric. We were given a room that had been the private chambers of the present owners great grandmother. The hotel has been modernised, with good large bathrooms, and marble floors. Accomodation included breakfast, which was served in a sunny dining room. And the food was good, if somewhat plain. The manager was very helpful, enquiring whether we needed any help or advice. The only downside of our stay was that the doorways are very low, and my husband, being very tall, nearly concussed himself twice, getting up at night, and bumping his head. Even after my warnings!!!
The hotel is situated right next to Gandhi Chowk, and is a 5 minute walk from the fort. We also enjoyed sitting on the roof , the views of the fort are magnificent. I would definitaly stay there again.
The Royal Family of Jaisalmer are in residenceat this Palace

Unique Quality: Lots of atmosphere....... The furnishings are all antique. Beautiful floors, with persian carpets.
Large bathroom, separate dressing room. Windows with a view.Punkah fan, air-con & TV. There is a lounge that was lined with old family portraits, and beautiful wall hangings.

More about Mandir Palace

Mandir Palace/TaziaTower

by RAJASTHANBYCAR

The delicate pagoda like Tazia Tower rises from Badal Mahal (Cloud Palace). Rising in its five-tiered splendour, with each storey graced by a delicately carved balcony, the tower is of historical significance. Muslim craftsmen built it in the shape of a Tazia and gifted it to their royal patron.Royal familay of Jaisalmer live here.

Mandir Palace - Jawahir Vilas Pt 2

These are photo's from the Durbar Hall which is found inside the Jawahir Vilas. It was the place where grand state banquets and other important functions were held and is very decorative with hand painted tiles and mirrors.

Mandir Palace - Badal Vilas

by Willettsworld

This late 19th century palace is distinguished by its multi-tiered tower in the shape of a tazia - the ornately decorated tower of wood, metal and coloured paper, carried by Shia Muslims at Muharram. The Tazia Tower of Badal Vilas, built in the mid-20th century, was a parting gift to the maharawal from the town's Shia stone carvers, many of whom moved to Pakistan after independence.

Mandir Palace - Jawahir Vilas Pt 1

by Willettsworld

The Jawahir Vilas are part of a royal complex called the Mandir Palace (meaning Temple Palace as two temples were originally built here). The first temple, dedicated to Lord Rama, was built in 1770 at the request of the mother of Maharawal Mulraj II. Then, in about 1810, the Maharawal himself, got a temple built and dedicated it to Girdhariji (another name of Lord Krishna). Subsequent rulers then added palaces to the complex with Maharawal Jawahir Singh (1914-49) making it his residence on a regular basis. The star attraction of the complex is the Jawahir Vilas with its tiers of very ornate balconies, canopies and delicately carved screens that are truly exquisite and represent a high point of local craftsmanship in its finest and purest form. Inside there is a lovely glasshouse whose walls have extensive glass and lattice work in gold of different hues and designs. The Durbar Hall, for state assemblies, has latticed screens and carved balconies and motifs that are spectacular indeed. Part of the complex is now a very posh hotel.
