In Jaisalmer I stayed in Hotel Dola Maru.
It's not in the center or near the fort, but the main sights are only a couple of minutes away by rikshaw.
The hotel room I stayed in at Dola Maru was on the ground floor, as most of the people from my group.
Have fun in India ;)

have a look at www.killabhawan.com lovely place, tastefully decorated, built out of 2 havellis which are part of the fort walls. My reading from VT suggests the owners are very friendly. Not sure about ground floor though.

Travel Tips for Jaisalmer

Riding Those Camels

by Waxbag

One of the greatest times spent on our camel safari, was the first hour in the morning riding the camels and the last hour in the late afternoon riding. It was a great time of reflection and peace. We had 10 days of this and did a lot of thinking about our travels and about life in general.

Jain Religion

by Willettsworld

Jainism is one of the oldest religions in the world and originates from ancient India. The Jains follow the teachings of the 24 Jinas (conquerors) who are also known as Tirthankars. The 24th Tirthankar, Lord Mahavira lived in ca. 6th century BC. One of the main characteristics of Jain belief is the emphasis on the immediate consequences of one's behaviour. Jains are a small but influential religious minority with at least 4.2 million practitioners in modern India and more in growing immigrant communities in the United States, Western Europe, Africa, the Far East and elsewhere. Jainism stresses spiritual independence and equality of all life with particular emphasis on non-violence towards all living beings. Jains are strict vegetarians and the more orthodox ones cover their mouths to avoid inadvertently swallowing living organisms.

Camel trek

by munki

Be careful when selecting the duration of the trek. I met a couple of travellers who agreed and paid in advanced for three or four days trek and then they returned earlier due to sickness, boredom or for having a hard time on the camels.
So be realistic and think how well your body will adapt to the life in the desert, saying that I strongly recommend going for at least two days to have enough time to enjoy this unique experience.

by indiabazaar

Desert Festival, Jaisalmer (Jan-Feb.): One of the most popular of all festivals it is a journey into the heart of the desert, the golden city of Jaisalmer that has a charm of its own. A true show on the sands which attracts even the much traveled visitor. Highly recommended. Be there.
