Very luxurious
I had the chance to stay at this luxurious hotel for free as our Air India flight got cancelled. It is quite grand. Large lobby, a beautiful courtyard and very nice rooms with firehose-like water pressure.

What was wrong with Fortune Ummed
Aside from there being no safe which I think is a must these days, the taps in the bathroom turned in the opposite way and it took a while to realize this. When I asked for an iron and ironing board, this ended up being an ancient appliance which didn’t look too safe and the board about to collapse. The convenience kiosk in the lobby opens when he feels like it and usually at night. While he sells everything from souvenirs, postcards, cigarettes, candy to books and more expensive items, he has yet to use his credit card facility. When he tried for me – and he had to take it to reception and ask if he could use their phone line, it didn’t work. He had had it 2 years and never used it. Another guest ordered a couple of beers through reception then came down later to order a couple more. He was told to ring room service and not go to reception, that using a phone was easy, just pick it up. He walked off giving the front desk a very rude sign. I asked if there was internet service, I was told they had a business centre and it was available 24 hrs a day. However when I went down that night I was told that the centre was under renovation and I could use the travel desk computer in the middle of the lobby – I declined. At Sir Pratap restaurant if you were early, you had about 7 waiters standing around you waiting to pounce then stood around and watched you eat. Once you had finished you were given a survey form to fill out. I cannot go into how good mine was at the end of my stay (not). At 7.00am a young boy in costume sat on the walkway in the courtyard outside and played his instrument. This was ok but the singing was worse than any rooster in agony. This was at 7.00am!!! The airconditioning worked in a fashion, and out of date and out of decent working order.. condition. On checking out my, it took 10 mins to finally pay my bill and then it was wrong.

Out in Seclusion
The Fortune Ummed Jodhpur has a pool and a garden courtyard and the 80 rooms all have views of either of these. There is also 8 suites and 4 of those have themes. The standard room is certainly spacious and comfortable and a small plate of biscuits are put in the room upon arrival. There is 24 hour room service along with tea/coffee facilities in the rooms and they say that the rooms have a safe deposit box however I and others found they didn’t. Other features list a gym and health club, bar and restaurant, a travel desk and in house laundry. The hotel is certainly lovely looking – however, I would never stay there again.

Fortune Ummed Hotel
The hotel is built around a central courtyard and is set on 28 acres of landscape gardens about 9 kms from the city and about 12km from the airport. The hotel looks like a small palace in its design and is very tranquil in its setting if peace and quiet is what you want. Not that great if you want to be in the middle of things with easy access.
