Mehrangarh Fort - Audio tour guide
by Willettsworld
Take the opportunity to listen to the audio tour within the Mehrangarh Fort as it's one of the best I've listened to. You can pick it up after entering through the main entrance gate (Jai Pol) on the left. It's included in the price of admission. The commentary for the tour, authentic history and family lore; descriptive, evocative and highly informative, is embellished with the reminiscences and views of the Royal Family. The Maharaja Gaj Singh II, who ascended to the Gadi of Jodhpur in 1952 at the age of four, the 38th Rathore Chief in direct line from Rao Sheoji (1226-1273), shares his memories of the moving Raj Tilak Ceremony at Mehrangarh.
Panchkund Queens' Cenotaphs
by RAJASTHANBYCAR
Panchkund Chattris or cenotaphs of the Queens is 3 Kms from Mandore. Not by far as large and grand as the cenotaphs of the rulers they are profoundly moving. Indeed in their simple and quite dignity the seem to say, "Here in sprit lie Marwar's queens.Let not anyone forget they were the strenght of the Rathores." The chattris lie in near ruin but it is believed they must not be disturbed. They too must follow the natural cycle.
Umaid Bhawan Palace & Museum
by satchmo1963
A grand piece of architecture in marble and pink stone, Umaid Bhawan is perhaps the latest of the grand Rajput palaces to be constructed. Construction commenced in 1929 as a fallout of a famine relief employment generation programme of Maharaja Umaid Singh. The palace was opened in 1945, just 2 years prior to India's independence.
Majority of the palace is out of bounds for the general tourist. Umaid Bhawan may be segmented into three parts. In one, the royal family of Jodhpur maintains their residence. The second portion is run as a luxury hotel, whilst the third part houses an interesting museum that's open to the general public.
The well-maintained museum, with friendly accompanying palace guards, contain worthwhile exhibits. I found the sections on clocks / watches and the armoury of special interest.
Outside the museum, one can admire some well-maintained vintage cars that are part of the royal stable.

Chamunda Mataji Temple in Mehrangarh is situated in the southern end of the Mehrangarh Fort. The founder of Jodhpur Rao Jodha's favorite goddess, he brought her idol from the old capital of Mandore in 1460 and installed her in Mehrangarh. She remains the Maharaja's and the Royal Family's Isht Devi or adopted goddess and is worshipped by most of Jodhpur's citizens as well. Crowds throng Mehrangarh during the Dussehra celebrations.
Moti Mahal/Peral Palace 1581 to 1595
by RAJASTHANBYCAR
Called the Peral Palace, the walls of this room are made of Chaux mixed with egg's shell.
it's the room were the "Durbar" takes place. the Durbar is a meeting between the Maharaja and all the important persons of the country. it's a privilegiate place for discussing the state 's preoccupations.
what is particulary significant, are the five "alcolues" which look like window's but are secret
places for the wives. so they can listen to the discussion and give their advises to the Maharaja.
