Marriage Ceremony in Rohet
by atufft
When we were in Rohet, we were invited to a wedding that took place as night. First, we walked over to meet the bride and see how she was dressed. She and her sisters and girlfriends were busy eating and preparing for the ceremony. After that, we walked over to the groom's home, where the men were celebrating in wild ways that would be familiar to anyone from the USA and Europe. Finally, the bride and groom were brought together for the marriage vows. We met the bride and groom and by the help of a child who knew some English, we were able to have a few questions answered. Music and festivities continued for so many hours that we eventually chose to go back to our room and sleep.
Phul Mahal/Flower Palace
by RAJASTHANBYCAR
The grandest of Mehrangarh's period rooms, the Phul Mahal was in all likely hood a private and exclusive chamber of pleasure dancing girls once swooned in exhaustion here under a ceiling rich in gold filigree. The Phul Mahal was created by Maharaja Abhaya Singh (1724-1749) and the gold came from Ahmedabad in Gujarat as war booty after his famous victory over the rebellious Mughal governor, Sarbuland Khan. The paintings, royal portraits and the ever-popular raga mala, came much later, in the reign of Jaswant Singh II.

The final gate is the Lohapol (Iron Gate) which features small hand prints painted in orange. These are the sati marks of Maharaja Man Singh's widows, who threw themselves upon his funeral pyre in 1843.
