Travel Tips for Jodhpur

Arts & Crafts of Jodhpur

by keeweechic

Jodhpur in earlier days became the epi-centre of western Rajasthan as far as enamelling of jewellery is concerned. Silver and gold ornaments were enamelled for the neck called timniya. The city is known for specialised cottage industries which sell glass bangles, cutlery, carpets, and marble products. A unique craft of Jodhpur is also the painting of camel hide skins with gold to make small containers for asha (a blended liqueur which is a popular beverage in Jodhur). Asha is made up of distilled rose or saffron which is embellished with crushed pearls and ground gold with chunks of goat and sheep brains. IT was conceived and prepared by the great Moghuls.

The Memorable Moments

by keeweechic

After leaving the Palace Hotel to head back to the alleyways to the road, I was approached by a couple of ladies. The first was an old lady with missing front teeth and a large ring through her nose. Her eyes were so mischievous. She was sitting on a mat on the pathway surrounded by bangles, colourful cords and threads. She welcomed me to take a photo. Usually I would be hesitant. As you find out with touring through India, a photo usually follows with an extended palm for money. She however did not such thing, she just wanted her picture taken and wanted to see the display of herself.

Blue-washed Houses

by Canadienne

The view from Mehrangarh Fort is awesome! On both sides of the fort, you get a true sense of why it's often called "The Blue City." This photo isn't great quality, but it hasn't been doctored to make the blue stand out ~ it actually looks like this.

An added benefit of the self-led audio tour is that you can spend as long as you want admiring the village below, listening to the sounds of the city, and imagining yourself in another time period.

temple in mandore garden

by mantru

we had a look at the garden enjoyed the folk music, paid the guys and they played and sung few rajasthani songs the most famous one "kesariya balam hamar padhora maro desh" welcome to our heartland....i just love the soulful tone of this song as well as the instrument...we went back to the auto wher the driver informed us of the temple so we went in again and checked the goga ji's temple where there were statues of warriors. There is one more temple next to it.

Mehrangarh Fort - Emperor Akbar's sword

by Willettsworld

This exquisite sword belonged to Akbar the Great, the emperor who so skillfully brought the Rajput clans into the fold of the Mughal Empire. The Mughals placed tremendous emphasis on beauty, as is apparent in everything they made or did. But beauty with function… There’s cuneiform script engraved in a decorative banner and the date; 1560; is inscribed within the ribbon-like band just above along with the text "Ya Jul Jal Jalal......Sann" meaning "The Possessor of the Splendor wroth Hizari years".
