Travel Tips for Jodhpur

The Blue City

by Canadienne

Legend has it that Brahmins of yester-year painted their homes blue in order to ward off mosquites. . .

Nowadays, the colour has spread to many other homes and buildings. It may not be effective for the original use, but it casts a beautiful hue over the town and makes for some amazing photos. Watching sunrise and sunset over the city, whether it's from the fort or from a rooftop restaurant, is even more appealing because of the vibrant colours.

Local Shopping

by keeweechic

This was a very typical Rajasthani village made up of mud plastered huts. Colourful clothes and fabrics hung from rusting metal frames along with household products and brooms. The mode of transport through these lanes and passageways was either motorbike or pushbike, the rest just walked.

Location :Nimaj, 110km east of Jodhpur

Temple

by shane_balmes

This beautiful temple is situated on the Mandore road. Maha Mandir Temple at Jodhpur is supported by fourteen pillars and the architecture is simply marvelous for the eyes. This temple is one of the most striking ones amongst the Temples in Jodhpur. here are a large number of devotees who flock to this temple to offer the prayers and seek the blessings of the presiding deity. Also to be found are several shops, selling the typical Rajasthani products.

bishnoi village trip 1

by mantru

we went to the village called Salabas interacted with people we were taken to potters house where we did try our hand to make a pot ....my end product was a disbalanced plate ha ha...i had lots of fun creating my supposed pot....next we went to the dhurri weavers or dari weavers they had beautiful designs the cost for the dari's started from 2000 inr they were made from cotton.....lastly we went to a farmer's house(where we were shown the opium tablets)he informed us it is used in most of the festivities especially during first night of marriage,as well to welcome guests, we had lunch ...they were delicious simple home made food, the roti was made from bajra with butter(pearl millet) cooked in cow dung cake(the most common type of fuel used in villages),cadi (thick soup made from curd and horse gram flower) and cabbage sabji(curry).I had my fill and really enjoyed spending some time with the villagers i wished it could be overnight stay instead of day visit.
