Travel Tips for Jodhpur

Village Safari

by Carino

In Govind Hotel we booked a Village Safari for 600 Rp per pax. We were supposed to see various small villages and get a touch of the local flavour. Well, let's put it that way.... you do see some handcrafts, also known as shops. Then you are brought to a small village, where a lot of local citizen will approach you. But the only thing they want is, that you take their picture and then ask for money. The last village was the highlight. You get the chance to play with children and have a real local lunch. Very unique experience.

Visit the Market and the Clock Tower

by Waxbag

The commercial center of the old city is the Sardar Market punctuated by the Clock tower. This area is absolutely buzzing with vendors selling spices, vegetables, fruits, sweets, textiles, silver, and handicrafts. The best part is the authentic feel and few tourists.

Jhanki Mahal/Cradle Section Musuem

The Jhanki Mahal is located on first flour like "Ridge" three side open, nerrow lane palace.North side view of Treasures Courtyard, South side view of Coronation Courtyard and Eastern side view of Rampart. Jhanki Mahal from where the royal ladies watched the official proceedings, from stone Jali screens in the two separate courtyards, today houses a rich collection of the royal cradles. The cradles are decorated with gilt mirrors and figures of fairies, elephant and birds.Several beautiful cradles, including an electric powered one made for the present Maharaja, make up a rare and unique collection.

Mehrangarh Fort - Museum

by Willettsworld

The royal apartments of the Mehrangarh Fort now form part of an outstanding museum which was one of the most impressive I visited in India. Take the audio tour which is included in the admission as it one of the best.

The Mehrangarh Museum Trust was started in March 1972 by His Highness The Maharaja Gaj Singh II with the principal objective of setting up a world class museum in Jodhpur. It was intended that this museum eventually house and display the Maharaja's substantial collections; of miniature paintings, portraits, books and manuscripts, weapons, textiles and tents, elephant howdahs and palanquins, and various objets' d art.

The Mahadol

by keeweechic

The Mahadol was brought back from Ahmedabad in 1730 by the Maharaja Abhay Singh and is one of the treasures of the Mehrangarh Museum. An ornate ‘palki’, it was used by the Maharaja himself and needed 12 men to carry it.
